New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update Chapter 4

Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

9 Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.

10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

1 Submit to God Humbly give your allegiance to God

2 Resist the Devil Take your stand against the Devil you cannot serve both God and the Devil

3 Draw near to God to continually fight sin you must commune with God Regularly

4 Cleanse your hands Recognize and confess your sin this is cleaning the outside

5 Purify your hearts cleanse your inner thoughts and motives

6 Be wretched mourn your sin, come to God broken and contrite over your sin and humble yourself
