THE FINAL PREPARATIONS OF THE DELIVERER - Exodus 4:18-31-

I. YOUR CALLING IS COMMUNION WITH GOD

Exodus 4:19 ESV
And the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who were seeking your life are dead.”
Exodus 4:21 ESV
And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.
INTIMACY - COMMUNION WITH GOD
Cannot achieve anything for God apart from communion with God.
LAST PART OF V 21
Exodus 4:21 (ESV)
And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.
Cannot even discern God’s call without communion with God
Some do not know their role or place in this kingdom of God not because they do not have one but because they are not in communion with God:
SEEMS MYSTERIOUS (MSES TALKING TO GOD) BUT IT IS NOT: JESUS CALLS THIS “ABIDING”
John 15:4 ESV
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
John 15:5 ESV
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:7–8 ESV
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
THE POWER THAT GOD GAVE TO MOSES IS NOW THE POWER WE HAVE IN CHRIST - BUT ONLY IN COMMUNION WITH HIM
Only connect with those who are, themselves, in communion with God (Aaron)
Exodus 4:27–31 ESV
The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he went and met him at the mountain of God and kissed him. And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord with which he had sent him to speak, and all the signs that he had commanded him to do. Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the people of Israel. Aaron spoke all the words that the Lord had spoken to Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people. And the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped.

II. YOUR CALLING IS AWAY FROM YOUR COMFORT

Exodus 4:18 ESV
Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Please let me go back to my brothers in Egypt to see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”
Exodus 4:19 ESV
And the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who were seeking your life are dead.”
· NOT JUST PHYSICAL COMFORTS
· BUT FROM THE COMFORTS OF BEING YOU
DONT WORRY ABOUT WHAT IS AHEAD OR OUT THERE
THE BACK-AND-FORTH WITH MOSES IS NOT SIMPLY THAT GOD IS GOING BACK-AND-FORTH WITH A MAN. BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT GOD IS DOING OTHER THINGS TOO! SO HIS PATIENCE WITH ME IS PREPARATION FOR ME BY DEALING WITH OTHER THINGS THAT ARE REQUIRED FOR ME TO FILL A PURPOSE FOR HIM.
THINK BACK OVER YOUR LIFE IN ALL THE WAYS THINGS SEEM TO MAKE SENSE NOW. IT DID NOT MAKE SENSE IN THE MOMENT AND OR YOU COULD NOT SEE THE CONNECTIONS. BUT NOW YOU DO. TAKE THAT REALITY AND UNDERSTAND THAT THAT IS WHAT GOD IS DOING NOW. SO HERE’S THE PRINCIPLE.

YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW YOU JUST NEED TO GO

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THE DETAILS OF HOW THINGS WORK YOU JUST NEED TO GO IN THE FAITH THAT GOD IS ALWAYS AT WORK.
IF HE CALLED YOU TO SOMETHING AND YOU ARE OBEDIENT IN THE CALLING, HE WILL SUPPLY ANY CONNECTIONS YOU NEED IN DUE TIME.
‌‌
WHAT COMFORT LOOKS LIKE IN A PERSON
A PERSON WHO IS A PERFECTIONIST
A PERSON WHO IS LAZY
A PERSON WHO IS INDIFFERENT

III. YOUR CALLING IS YOUR HOLINESS

Exodus 4:21–23 ESV
And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son, and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’ ”
THIS WAS WHAT MOSES WAS SPECIFICALLY CALLED TO DO
- Your holiness is doing what God has called you to specifically do in the business of His kingdom
Moses set apartness is his life; he cannot conceive of another life where he will see and experience the blessings of the Lord’s favor and power.
Psalm 139:13 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
Psalm 139:14 ESV
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Psalm 139:15 ESV
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Note Psalm 139:14 (Fearfully wonderfully) is connected, in some ways to your calling and purpose in life. When God created you he did so with a purpose and a design. You and I are never emotionally, morally and psychologicaly whole until we are in the lane the Lord has called us to
- As soon as you do it he will test you Tested By God
Exodus 4:24–27 ESV
At a lodging place on the way the Lord met him and sought to put him to death. Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it and said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!” So he let him alone. It was then that she said, “A bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision. The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he went and met him at the mountain of God and kissed him.
Here is the point: Your calling is your holiness.
And yet, God seeking to kill Moses, is a gracious reality. How so? He could have just killed him.
This is a warning – and attempt to see God and to change; this does not minimize the gracious call.
- THERE IS IN CHRIST THE DEATH OF EVERY FAILURE AND DISOBEDIENCE THAT COMES FROM SEEKING TO MAKE THE MIND OF CHRIST OUR MIND. BUT THIS DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE NECESSITY OF A LIFE THAT DEMONSTRATES HOLINESS
THE ATTEMPT TO KILL MOSES SHOWS THAT GOD IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS ABOUT HIS PURPOSE AND HIS GLORY AND, FOR US SEE IT THIS WAY:
- GOD WILL BRING YOU CLOSE TO A DEATH TO GET YOUR ATTENTION ABOUT WHO HE IS AND WHAT HE WANTS FROM YOU
SITUATION: ABOUT SITUATIONS IN YOUR LIFE TO CAUSE YOU TO PONDER WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE
o RELATIONSHIP DEATH
o PHYSICAL (LITERAL) DEATH (TELL MY STORY OF THE ACCIDENT
o ALL OF THIS IS NOT THE OPPOSITIE OF LOVE: IT IS LOVE
o Reason: Cant do it halfheartedly (see quote)
