Equip 2023 Breakout Session (Centennial Baptist Association)
Understanding how each person on this planet was made in God’s image changes the way we see so many issues including abortion, racism, violence, poverty, and even how we share our faith. Join us to see what the Bible says about what it means to be made in the likeness and image of God.
Psalm 139:13–16 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
Westminster Confession
Question 1: What is the chief end of man?
Answer: Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

How we love ourselves

Psalm 139:13-16 is not only talking about our value as babies but the value in our whole life.
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
Abortion
Suicide/Self-harm
Euthanasia

How we love our neighbors

Psalm 139:13-16 is not only talking about our own life value but the truth is about all people.
Racism/Bullying/Violence
Euthanasia
Poverty/Homelessness

How we love our Creator

Psalm 139:13-16 is not only talking about the value of the created but speaks even more about the value that comes from the Creator.
A good illustration of the image of God in fallen man is that of an automobile windshield that has shattered. The glass remains there but it is so damaged that it will no longer function properly.
Richard Phillips
Knowledge
Colossians 3:10 “and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”
Righteousness
Ephesians 4:24 “and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Notice the focus of the Psalmist - recognition of God’s design on his own life causes him to worship God.
Romans 8:29 “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”
We experience joy when we glorify God because we are living how we were created to live.
