We’ve spent a lot of tiem over the last few weeks talking about the proper order of the world.
and one of the pieces that we’ve lost is the order of the family - and we’re working to reclaim that.
So I’m going to spend the next several weeks going through one of the most critical duties of the family - education.
Deut 6:6-8 “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.”
Education is much more than book learning, although it’s certainly not less.
Part of our problem is that we’ve secularized education - which is imposible, btw.
we’ve deluded ourselves into thinking that education can somehow simply be an instruction of facts, systems, and analysis.
That’s not the case.
and that’s partly why the enemy has been winning the war in the US for the last 100 years.
We’ve bought into the idea that education is skill / information based alone and so we’ve shipped the last 3 generations off to institutions that have instructed them in WORLDVIEW.
NOT just in information and skills.
The enemy was running the play from the jump.
Now… our Christian schools caught wind of this about twenty years ago and they started to try and run their own counter-attack.
working “Biblical Worldview” into their curriculum like crazy.
I remember working at WCA then and in ever lesson we had to have our BWI - ya’ll know what that was?
Now… these Christian schools were well intentioned, but it didn’t work.
Why didn’t it work?
because who’s responsible for education? THE FAMILY.
And the school independent of the family - it ain’t gonna work.
Now to their Credit WCA worked really hard to have parents on the team.
even a part of the mission statement - “TO ASSIST PARENTS IN TRAINING THEIR CHILDREN”
but that doesn’t matter if the parents aren’t on the team.
It won’t work.
Education is for FORMATION.
So - really what we’re talking about is much more than just school - although that is a crucial part.
we’re talking about forming a human being.
Well, what all goes into forming a human being?
culture
instruction
experience
adversity/trial
