Tithes

Tithe - One-tenth of a person’s goods, whether agricultural or monetary, dedicated to God.
Idea of 10% came from our Father of Faith Abraham in a gift to Malchizadek
Genesis 14:18–20 CSB
Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; he was a priest to God Most High. He blessed him and said: Abram is blessed by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and blessed be God Most High who has handed over your enemies to you. And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
SO Abram and Lot had split. Lot lived over by Sodom and Gomorrah and Abram lived Oaks of Mamre. Sodom and Gomorrah get conquered and people are taken away . When Abram hears about this, he assembled 318 men and together they defeated 4 kings to return Lot and others home.
Then this Melchizedek shows up.
King of Salem
King of the Valley
And Salem is Jerusalem!
Brought bread and wine
Priest to God Most High.
Blessed Abram.
This man was both KING and Priest. That does not exist anywhere but in 1 person.
Melchizedek means King of Righteousness!
Leviticus 27:30–34 CSB
“Every tenth of the land’s produce, grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. If a man decides to redeem any part of this tenth, he must add a fifth to its value. Every tenth animal from the herd or flock, which passes under the shepherd’s rod, will be holy to the Lord. He is not to inspect whether it is good or bad, and he is not to make a substitution for it. But if he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute will be holy; they cannot be redeemed.” These are the commands the Lord gave Moses for the Israelites on Mount Sinai.
Deuteronomy 16:17 CSB
Everyone must appear with a gift suited to his means, according to the blessing the Lord your God has given you.
Proverbs 3:9–10 CSB
Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.

It’s all God’s

“The silver and gold belong to me”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies.
Malachi 3:10 CSB
Bring the full tenth into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way,” says the Lord of Armies. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure.
- i love it when god says “test me” - it means he will pass!
Giving leads to blessing!
tithe is faith
1 Timothy 6:10 CSB
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Change our perspective!
2 Corinthians 9:7 CSB
Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.
you get to give - not have - change perspective
FOUNDATION -
2 Corinthians 8:12 CSB
For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.
give what you can, and want - its a great starting point!
FOCUS
2 cor 9:6-7
