Text: Exodus 27:19, 35:18, 39:40
Isaiah 33:20 KJV 1900
Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: Thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, A tabernacle that shall not be taken down; Not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, Neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Intro: In our study last week we focused on the securing power of the pins offered once they had been hammered into the ground. That being said the security that the pins offered only became a reality once something had been secured to them. Our study today will be on tie down component, known as the cords. The cords worked in conjunction with the pins, to hold the Tabernacle together and to secure it firmly to its place. Our lesson on the pins, showed the Person of Jesus, as the tested One ( His Humanity). "...was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Heb. 4:15) In the cords we have the everlasting work of Christ (His Deity). We can in no way separate the Person from the Work… The pins offered security, while the cords where that which drew everything together, and held it fast to that security.
The work of the Lord Jesus by its nature is a drawing. Please note: Drawing is different than dragging...
Hosea 11:4 KJV 1900
I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: And I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, And I laid meat unto them.
2 Corinthians 5:14 KJV 1900
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
Constrain: To tie fast, to bind...
It is His love, which holds us. If our bond with Christ depended on our love and steadfastness to Him, then the winds of our circumstances would blow us far apart.
John 12:32–33 KJV 1900
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die.
The cords set before us are a picture of the love of Christ, held taut to keep a consistent drawing effect,. A work that is wrought through through the work of His infinite love!
The pins give us the Person of Christ in all faithfulness to God the Father and man. The pins and the cords went together, meaning the pins were useless without the use of the cords. The cords would have served no function without the security offered by the pins.
The Person and the Work of Christ, must go together!
1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV 1900
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
That and is placed there by inspiration of the Holy Spirit! It shows us a divine and eternal bond between the Person of Christ and the Work of Christ.
Person: _____________
Work: _______________________
Concerning His Person, the Bible tells us:
Colossians 2:9 KJV 1900
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Concerning His Work, the Bible tells us:
1 Corinthians 15:3 KJV 1900
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
The work that He finished on the cross did not bring an end to His work. The Bible tells us:
Hebrews 7:25 KJV 1900
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
There is no separation betwen Christ as God, manifest in the flesh, Christ on the cross of Calvary as an atoning sacrifice, and Christ in Heaven the loving and every living High Priest!
Therefore, when Paul says, “…save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” He is saying the Christ whom I preach unto you is the Christ who died on that Roman cross, but now lives, and is now your advocate seated on the right hand of God the Father.
To attempt the separate either His work from His person or vice versa, is a treasonous act against the other.
We live in a world where the morals and ethics of Christ as a man are applauded, while His sacrificial work on the cross is rejected and despised. To treat Him only as a good man is to deny His own claims of deity and makes His death, as nothing more than a meaningless murder.
A Christ without deity and a cross without atoning blood presents an anti christ and not the Christ of the Bible.
Consider the separation of the cords and the pins in the construction of the Tabernacle. Driving the pins without cords is at best a waste of time and effort. In there insufficiency the Tabernacle blows, is shaken, and eventually falls.
If the deity of Christ is removed, then the cross is a failure. There is no atoning work for only God can atone to God. If we do not have His perfect humanity in absolute connection with His magnificent deity then we have nothing…
He must be preached as Christ, ever-existing, eternal and very God, humbled Himself in the form of a servant, through necessity offered Himself in sacrifice as weak and very man, Who arose from the dead , ascended to Heaven, and upon the terms of Justice being met by His crucifixion, and His death as the sacrifice for sin, He can now offer eternal life to the believing sinner through His life in Heaven where He seeks, and draws man to Himself, through the cords of His unfailing and magnificent love!
Romans 16:25 KJV 1900
Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
1 Corinthians 2:5 KJV 1900
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
