It is easy to forget who we serve and why we do it.
On this floor, I want us to remember. In every scenario, remember.
Who We Serve
Who We Serve
“Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
God calls his people to lean in and listen, as a floor I believe he is calling us to lean in and listen.
Men, you have made a decision to seek God and to Serve Him, that is why you are here, so listen in.
Love the Lord your God
Love the Lord your God
With our whole hearts
With our whole hearts
Deuteronomy 6:5 (CSB)
Love the Lord your God with all your heart.
Our ability to love and serve and obey God begins with the heart.
Repeatedly in the OT God and his prophets call the people to turn their hearts to God.
Your heart is your innermost self, those things you care most deeply about dwell here.
Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
I don’t know your heart. You don’t know mine, but you can see what flows from my inner being. You know the things I think of the most by what I say. You know my heart towards people by how I treat them, you know my heart towards God by whether or not I live to reflect his beauty.
Where is your heart? What consumes your mind and comes out of your mouth? What are your habits? Money?
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
With our Whole Soul
With our Whole Soul
Deuteronomy 6:5 (CSB)
with all your soul.
This is probably best understood as your whole life.
Breathe perhaps. Center of who you are, your thoughts and emotions. Your desire.
Everything you want should be God
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
With our Veriness
With our Veriness
Deuteronomy 6:5 (CSB)
and with all your strength.
Might/strength? Think very or big.
All you are, everything you do, heart to toe, love God.
He has given all of himself and he require all of ourselves in return.
Bring your total being to love the Lord.
How?
How?
These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.
How do we do this?
Talk about them and put them everywhere so you do not forget.
How we Speak
How we Speak
Freshman: I apologize
Returners: lets repent.
If God calls us to love him with our all, that includes how we speak.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
We have got to get our mouths and actions in line with the gospel and in line with what we believe to be true about God.
We will not serve the idol of compromise.
We can do better.
What will you church expect.
You have come here, presumably, because you want to serve the Lord, so serve him with your whole self.
