Jan 23, 1968 The USS Pueblo, a US Navy Intelligent ship was hijacked by North Korean Patrol bats in the international water off the coast of North Korea. This started a military standoff that lasted 11 months. 82 surviving crew member were taken into captivity. In one instance 13 of the men were required to sit around a table for hours . The NK guard beat the man in the first chair This happened for 3 days.
Noting the man could not survive the next day another man took his place. The next day the door swung open and the guard automatically beat the new victim senseless. For several weeks a new man step forward each day to sit in the horrible chair know full well what would happen. The guards gave up. They could not overcome that kind of self sacrificial love.
Each of us is the person sitting in the first chat but instead of being beating we are to die. Knowing this Jesus traded place with tus and took the death blows that were intended for us. No one suffered more than Jesus Because he is the only one who is sinless. He became our sin bearer out of pure unconditional love.
Mark 15 is a picture of how much Jesus loved us.

Leviticus 16:7-10Leviticus 16:7-10 “7 Next he will take the two goats and place them before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 8 After Aaron casts lots for the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other for an uninhabitable place, 9 he is to present the goat chosen by lot for the Lord and sacrifice it as a sin offering. 10 But the goat chosen by lot for an uninhabitable place is to be presented alive before the Lord to make atonement with it by sending it into the wilderness for an uninhabitable place.”
The releasing of the goat symbolized the sins of the people being carried away, never to be held against them again.
Warren W. Wiersbe
The act of sending the live goat out into the wilderness, which was unholy ground, was to send the sins of the people where they belonged—to the demonic domain.
Michael S. Heiser
The goat for Azazel wasn’t an offering to evil gods—the goat was never sacrificed. Instead, sending it into the wilderness was a symbolic way of cleansing holy ground (the Israelite camp) from sin.
Michael S. Heiser
Who do you want?
A Jesus that does not make you feel guilty
A Jesus you could live with
