Jacob and Esau: chapter 25-27
Jacob and Esau
What a lier, what a God!
Started in conflict between the twins...
Whats the problem with twins?
Salvation comes from one line… Yet now we have 2 sons
Genesis 25:23 (KJV 1900)
23 And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; And the one people shall be stronger than the other people; And the elder shall serve the younger.
Older would serve the younger.
Esau sells birthright for a bowl of soup.
Jacob tricks Issac to giving him the blessing.
Why did God choose Jacob?
16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
God hated Esau because Esau didn’t take God serious!
God loved Jacob because he reached for him!
God’s mercy is there for everyone… we just have to want it!
Next story illustrates this!
Jacobs Latter: Gen 28
Jacobs on the run for his life and to find a wife...
8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
Another example of why God hated him…
Jacob stops for the night and dreams...
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
God gives him the same covenant he made with his father and grandfather.
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Why the ladder?
Compare this with Gen11.4
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
We have a group trying to get to heaven for personal gain, wrong motivations
When all God wants is for someone to come to him broken and repented… just help me Jesus!
Here’s all my mess… I can’t do it.
When you come to Him like that, you access his mercy!
Genesis 28:12 (KJV 1900)
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
Didn’t go from heaven to earth… but from earth to heaven!
His grandfather had already set the latter up, he just had to find it!
