Paul understood that both sincere people and fakes/charlatans alike will use the application of religion to move ahead in life. One with genuine motivation to find God, the other with deceptive/selfish motivation. Both end up at the same destination, however. The litmus test real salvation is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
