Tyler and Joy
When I worked with a campus ministry the guy who started our ministry had a philosophy-It was called master-mission-mate.
What it means was is that you need to do life in that order. First and foremost you need to find your master, We all have a master and hopefully that master will be Jesus.
Next we need to find our mission. What are we put on this earth to do.
Lastly we find our mate, someone we want to do that with. But most people do not follow that order. But joy and Tyler did.
You see Joy and Tyler started running after Jesus full throttle and as they were running they took a peak to their side and they checked out who was running next to them, only to find they were both running the same race.
Master-
I remember very clearly the day we met Joy. It was at a church super bowl party. Of course their was good food and a game. But of course the ladies of our church decided to break off at one point and go pray. We have a lot of ton of Godly woman at this church. Joy was drawn into our church and from the day you came I have been blessed to see God work in and through your life.
Why does joy have this passion?
Because at a young age she heard about the unfathomable love of God.
Joy found her master through hearing about the love of God at a young age. She embraced God’s love and at the age of 8 was baptized because she wanted the world to know that she was a child of God.
God love has stayed with her to this very day. What a blessing it is to be taught these truths and also embrace the. From the day I have met Joy she has always just had this confidence about her relationship with God and has had a desire to be with him and serve him in any capacity. One of my favorite things about planting RCC is seeing how God has used you Joy to lead us in worship each week
Tyler did not find the love of God at a young age. But the love of God would eventually find him. It would hunt him down. Tyler was looking for God’s love in all the wrong places. Drugs and alcohol. And it was through the hard things of life where he hit rock bottom to the point of having so little hope that he was ready to end his life. Through that dark time he went to a place in Tennessee and it was at this rehab center that he heard in a fresh way about this amazing God who loved him just like he was.
It was there in Tennessee that he recieved God’s gracious gift through Jesus and accepted what Jesus had done for him on the cross. This moment literally changed the direction of his entire life.
Before they even knew that one another existed they had their master but more importantly their master had them.
Mission-
It did not take Tyler long to find his mission. There in the mountains of Tennessee, I actually don’t know if he was in the mountains, but he was in Tennessee . Now having had his life changed by God he was now on a mission to help others find their purpose and life in God’s hands. It was in this time of service that Tyler’s brother was injured so badly that they did not know if he would make and as he flew home it would turn out that he was back for good.
He got his same old job, but he was a new man. It was there in his free time that he began to plug in with Celebrate Recover and help others find what he found, as he walked through and still walks with many others to victory with Christ.
He now has a mission.
Remember Joy and still did not know each other.
It was during this time that Joy was coming out of an abusive marriage and she found healing and freedom in Christ like never before. It did not take her long to want to help others experience that same freedom that she had found.
Just like she always does she jumped in full force and started investing in the lives of others.
Mate
It is in those seasons where people say I am content being single that you got to watch out. I think my wife said that right before she met and started dating me.
The missions expo at Sugar Creek the other leaders left, (this may have been intentional) They were thinking don't leave me. It ended up being the easiest conversation. They would start dating a year after that. They were focusing on their healing.
Then the emails-they talked about everything. It started at the beginning with the emails (before they began dating) Tyler thought he over stepped the boundaries.
Then they realized they needed to start dating.
I love what Tyler said:
God brought us together.
That long conversation lead to emails and it was a time when they were not dating but they were becoming best friends. As one person told me, marry your best friends.
beautiful picture 4th of july
It was a beautiful picture of how this mission was coming together when Joy and Tyler invited me and my boys to a 4th of July cookout. Heather and the girls were at a volley ball tournament
Continue running this race side by side right next to each other.
Today friends I ask one thing, commit to supporting, praying for and encouraging this couple.
As we go into a few things I want to share I would also say if their is anyone here who has not began a relationship with Jesus Christ, that would be the greatest gift that you could give Joy and Tyler today.
Tyler:

Challenge #1 to Joy-Submit to Tyler because you have submitted to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:22 NIV
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
Joy: Submit to God, because before you are Kevin’s you are the Lords.

As to the Lord does not mean that a wife is to submit to her husband in the same way she submits to the Lord, but rather that her submission to her husband is her service rendered “to the Lord” (cf. Col. 3:18).

Because you submit to the Lord you will submit your life to Tyler.
There is power in submission many think of submission as a weak thing but their is great strength in submission. Jesus submitted to the father when he said not my will but your will be done.
Now submission is not silence. One of the things I love about my wife is that she challenges me more than any other person I know.
How can you submit to Tyler.
1. Walk with Jesus-I love seeing my wife walking deeply with Jesus. It is a beautiful sight to behold.
2. Be honest with Tyler, in other words communicate, tell him how you really feel. Heather will tell me when I am off. I need that
3. Trust him because you trust God.
Why should we submit:
Ephesians 5:23–24 NASB95
For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

Challenge to Tyler #1-Love Joy by laying your life down for her.

Proverbs 18:22 NASB95
He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the Lord.
Tyler the Bible tells you that you have found a good thing.
The word of God tells you how to love Joy
Ephesians 5:25 NASB95
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
Tyler, this is your great calling in your home to lay down your life for your wife. Paul gives 9 verses on the role of the husband and 3 verses on the role of the wife.
God knows one thing, men are hard headed.
Tyler this verse is impossible to live out without God’s daily guidance so you have to walk with God daily. The only reason you will be able to live this out is because of the grace of God who laid his life for you.
You will lay your life down daily by
Ephesians 5:26–30 NASB95
so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body.

Couples Challenge-Enjoy each other as best friends.

Ephesians 5:31–33 NASB95
For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
You are literally one flesh-My hope and prayer today is that you love each other more at the end of your lives than you do now.
What God has brought us together let no one separate
It was the Lord
Our emotions are fulfilled in Jesus so we are able to give into each other and serve each other.
Mission-On mission, talk about their cookout. 4th of July cookout
Met at Celebrate recover as leaders-Tyler was already a leader
