Have You Ever Trusted Someone or Something That Let You Down?

Jude 17–23 NIV
But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
Jude 17 NIV
But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.
“Dear Friends” The NIV does not convey the the intensity of what Jude is writing here. The Word Jude uses here is “Agapetos” or Agape. A Better word is Beloved
Jude is conveying A love of the reader that goes beyond, “Dear Friends”
Jude goes on to remind the reader what is to come
Jude 18 NIV
They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”
I want to look at the word here Scoffers
(Em- Pike- case) means to mock
So people are going to mock and dod what they want
I think we are seeing this today more and more just like they were when Jude penned
I’ve heard people degrading God, and say they want to do what they want to do.
They not only go against God, they mock Him and His followers while doing it. their hearts have really chosen to find their identity in that which is evil.
First we must not become this person, we must be guarding our ourselves, and be saturated in the Word and in prayer to keep ourselves aligned with God’s Will.
We must not give these people a seat out our table
Not talking about a literal table
a dinner table is a place were we meet and where we let people in
The reason why we don’t let these ideas in is because of verse 19
Jude 19 NIV
These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
By letting these people in and have influence on you they are dividing not only the Church but yourself and God
The follow the natural instincts, the word for Natural instincts is actually one word and that is (Sir-re-cos) which is the idea of unspiritual, our natural state, that of the flesh.
What does the Bible say about the flesh
Romans 8:6 NIV
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:8 NIV
Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
Galatians 5:16 NIV
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:19–21 NIV
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
If You are walking with these things you need did to repent, there is grace and mercy and salvation but you need to give these things up.
Sin is the symptom of a deeper problem
BUT sometimes sin is just a momentary lapse in judgement

Jude 20–21 NIV
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Jude gives us the plan to combat these things, building ourselves

Studying the Word of God

Trusting God

Learning to seek Him First

Praying in the Holy Spirit

Not only pray for what we feel like we need to pray, but open our selves to allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our prayers.
Jude 22–23 NIV
Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
When we see people who doubt even Christians we need to have mercy, not look down on them
and Jude stresses the fact that WE all need to be telling people the gospel, snatching them from Hell
Hate the clothing stained by corrupted flesh
