Work Heb 11:8 backwards.
Hebrews 11:8 NIV
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
Did not know where he was going.
1. Following God in uncertainty
It is going to be okay if you don’t have the next step of life figured out. Why because God does.
Sometimes the life of faith is on a need to know basis.
But we want all the answers before we go.... right?

2. Following God is uncomfortable.
Genesis 12:1 NIV
1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
Go from:
Your Country -
Your People -
Your Fathers house -
What is God asking you to Go From?
Hebrews 11:8 NIV
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
Obeyed and went
Until you do the little things God has told you, he is unlikely to show you the more you are praying about.
Yet true faith is able to wait for the fulfillment of God’s purposes in God’s time. But, while we are waiting, we must also be obeying. “By faith Abraham … obeyed” (Heb. 11:8). He obeyed when he did not know where he was going(Heb. 11:8–10).
Waiting is, for me, one of the most difficult disciplines of life.
Hebrews 11:8 NIV
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
later receive his his inheritance
He also obeyed when he did not know how God’s will would be accomplished (Heb. 11:11–12). Both Abraham and Sarah were too old to have children. Yet they both believed that God would do the miracle.
Hebrews 11:11–12 NIV
11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
was past / was enabled
3. Unbelief asks, “How can I be sure of this?”
Luke 1:18–20 NIV
18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” 19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”
How can I be sure of this / Which will come true at their appointed time.
4. Faith asks, “How will this be?”
Luke 1:34–37 NIV
34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”
How will this be
Hebrews 11:8 NIV
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
would later receive / his inheritance
Abraham believed and obeyed God when he did not know when God would fulfill His promises
God always fulfills His promises to His believing people, either immediately or ultimately.
Genesis 12:2 NIV
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
James 2:23 NIV
23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.
Abraham believed God / he was called God’s friend.
