Welcome to Bible Study Fellowship!
My name is Megan Hutchinson-
Before we get started..I have a very important yearly disclaimer
I hope your listening because this is important
It’s fall..which means it is pumpkin spice season.
Pumpkin spice should only be found in baked goods, candles, and coffee…not popcorn, or cheerios, m&m’s or shampoo.
ok..now that we have that out of the way..
PICTURE…AFTER WORDS GET YOUR PICTURE
If we haven’t met- I am the teaching leader of our class here at Kenwood Baptist.
If this is your first time at BSF- I want to extend a special welcome to you.
I’m not sure what brought you here today...
Maybe you are new to God and the Bible and just wanting to check out what it has to say.
Maybe you have been studying God’s word for a long time and you heard that BSF goes in depth, so you wanted to see what that was about....
Maybe your not sure yet if you actually WANT to be here....
or you are still wondering what you actually signed up for- but your friend has been bugging your forever...
Whatever brought you here…welcome…I am so glad you are here.
For those of you that have been around- the room may feel a little bit fuller.
In addition to many new women, God has brought many of our women who were online back to us in person.
Welcome back- it is so good to see your whole bodies after only seeing your faces on zoom!
BSF is an international Bible study with more than 400,000 members across the globe.
That means, that this year, all around the world- men, women, and children will all be studying the Gospel of John.
To kick off our study- we are going to hear from BSF’s executive director, Hollie Roberts. This will be the lecture for this week- so if you are a note taker, this is the time to get out your stuff. Before joining the BSF staff in 2018, Hollie served as a Children’s Leader, Group Leader, and Teaching Leader.
Her passion is to see GENERATIONS of men, women, and children who hear and obey God’s Word through BSF and the 4 fold approach.”
I will explain more on the 4 fold approach later, but first, let’s hear from Hollie.

Before we end today, I want to give you a little more information about BSF and get you ready for next week.
1st…BSF is run on many, many volunteers...I don't have time to introduce them all to you today, but, I do want to quickly introduce you to our class staff.
Ashley Conrad is our BSF Kids Program supervisor and
Hannah Martell is our BSF student program supervisor.
They are in the back w/ the kids but hopefully you will get a chance to meet them soon if you haven’t already.
next Cindi Nugent- is our Class Administrator- along with her admin. team she organizes a million behind the scene details
and lastly, I want to introduce you to our teaching team for the gospel of John:
Each week, either myself or one of our STL’s will give the lecture over the passage we just studied, similarly to what you just saw from Hollie
Lea McQuinn and Anna Mullady are our substitute teaching leaders and will be teaching alongside me.
In addition to teaching, Lea and Anna will also provide seminars throughout the year.
Our first seminar is a Bible Navigation seminar and it will be in 2 weeks on Wednesday, September 27 during lecture. This seminar is for anyone who wants to become more familiar with the Bible and it’s layout. We will give you more information on this next week!
Thank you to all who brought children here today to our BSF Kids preschool program and our student program.
Our class has a unique opportunity to reach the next generation and I am so excited that all of you are going to get to participate through serving in our classes with your groups this year!
Quick building logistics- our BSF kids wing is right behind me. The door over here locks for safety so the way to access the hallway is through the atrium (which is the area with all the windows). If you do not have any children in our BSF kids program, please avoid this hallway by walking the other way.
We have almost 300 kids registered for BSF so this will help with keeping our kids safe and help with congestion in the hallway.
4 fold approach:
Alright- so now what...
At BSF, we study God's word using a method known as the 4-fold approach...this is meant to be a layered approach and these steps are meant to be followed in order.
Step 1: Lesson
Your lesson is provided by BSF to introduce you to a passage and designed to provide daily study in God’s word. So for next week, complete and bring lesson 1.
The goal is that you would engage with God's word- it's ok if you don't know an answer. Practice meeting with God- with just him and His word..
Step 2- Group Discussion- after you complete your lesson, you will come next week and discuss it in the context of community.
This is an opportunity for you to share what God taught YOU. Please don’t share what you heard by a pastor, on a podcast, or on a TV show that reminded you of the scripture.
Our goal is to keep the main thing the main thing…...our mission is GLOBAL- IN DEPTH BIBLE STUDY…and we want YOU to experience God…through his word...as share what YOU are learning.
Step 3- Lecture- each week following your discussion, you will engage in the next layer as you listen to a lecture prepared by myself or one of our substitute teaching leaders.
Step 4- NOTES- and lastly, the final part of the 4 fold approach is the notes. The notes are to be read after you listen to the lecture.
This is another layer to take you deeper into the passage.
BSF has provided notes for this week even though there was not a lesson.
So, you just listened to the lecture, go and read the introductory notes and then complete lesson 1 to bring to discussion with you next week.
All materials are available on your mybsf.org.
Please reach out to your group leader or someone on our admin team if you need help accessing any lessons or notes.
The lecture will also be recorded and posted on mybsf.org if you miss a week or are serving in our children’s program.
ok so next week:
Read notes
Complete lesson 1
Come with lesson 1 next week to discuss in your groups

Before we go...I have one final, exciting announcement for you!
This year- we have 2 groups of women who will be studying the gospel of John as a part of our class outside of Wednesday mornings.
The first will be a group of women who are currently in prison in the Marysville Correctional Facility.
The second, will be women who have gotten out of prison and are in a rehabilitation facility to help get them back on their feet.
Each week they will be studying the same passage- and following the same 4 step approach as you.
They will do the same lesson, read the same notes, and hear the same lecture.
The hope and prayer is that when they get out of prison they can continue BSF in the rehab facility and then hopefully, one day, be a part of a BSF class wherever God brings them.
We need your help in 2 ways:
1st...Prayer- please lift up these women as they begin to dive into God’s word and also the women God has called to lead those studies.
2nd.. These women do not have access to BSF materials. We are asking for donations for about 47 lesson books. If you would like to donate a book- we are asking you to go to the back and our admin. leader has a sign up.
- Books cost $20 a piece and all you have to do is donate the money for the book and we will order them and get them to the women.
You can donate via cash or venmo- and that information is in the back.
Please know this is a one time donation for books and separate from giving a donation to BSF.
Thank you for helping us bring God’s word to these women and for joining us in praying for them as they begin to study God’s word and learn about the freedom they can have through life with Christ!
So with that, let’s pray!
PRAY
See you next week! DONT FORGET TO GET YOUR FIRST DAY PICTURES IN THE BACK
