I)     THE BACKDROP:

A)   The Romans were in Rule

1)   Domitian was Emperor at the time of the writing of Revelation (around 95AD)

2)   He insisted on the public to worship him as lord and god.

B)   The Rebellion to the Rule

1)   Christians refused to obey this command or order.

2)   This brought about a second wave of persecution against the church. These Believers were subjected to…

(a)  public mockery,

(b) financial boycott,

(c)  incarceration,

(d) exile, and death.

3)   The book of Revelation was revealed to believers, this gave them confidence that God was still on the throne and was in control of those that sat on thrones.

II)   THE BOOK:

A)   The Bible is a spiritual book – It is divine in its Character

1)   The truths of the Bible cannot not be understood by human intellect.

I Corinthians 4:12 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2)There is only one way to comprehend spiritual truth

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

B) “Revelation” means “the veil rolled aside”.

It carries the Idea of an “Uncovering!”
