JESUS- THE WASHING OF FEET
JESUS- THE WASHING OF FEET
Jesus announces his betrayal
Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest.
And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’
But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.
For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.
After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”
For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”
So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
GIVE WORD OF THE LORD
Lord is leading into a season of intimacy, corperate seeking, not focused on a man or a woman.
Saw Jesus tying us together with a rope in a circle around a table. “Dine together”.
Little and great faith. Glory pouring out.
Angel passing before me. Showed me a book, opened it. I said show me what is in the book. Saw hub seeking together, wind waiting to break in. Glory falling, demons coming out without a word from man, miracles.
Pressing in for hours out of a place of grace. All night prayer.
SEEKING WILL BUILD MATURITY. God wants to raise up leaders.
Equipping identity, gifts, serving the body with your gifts, raising up to be leaders.
STORY
When your sick but have deliverances that day
When someone tells you their darkest secrets
When someone wants a prophetic word to keep going
When - suicide story
When someone calls you up at 3am for deliverance, objects flying in the room etc lights flickering
When you have deliverances all day and are hungry and tired
When people come to you for prayer, pouring their heart out, need support, need .... and your going through trial, tribulation, loss etc…
When you get persecuted and people drag your name through the dirt...
When the going gets tough, when you want to quit, when you want to backout, will you stay?
Are you prepared to make that commitment? It isn’t always easy… and it isn’t about you.
Ministry will consume you when it is done from a wrong heart
It will be work unless you do it from a place of intimacy
Intimacy… Jesus must wash your feet before you can wash other’s feet. He washes the dirt off.
JESUS THE SERVANT
JESUS THE SERVANT
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
ESV- but emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, born in the likeness of men
Omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent etc… emptied
Give bottle example- Smitten by God and afflicted, pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquties, like a lamb that is led to the slaughter.
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
And let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
BONDSERVANT:
Romans 1:1- Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an Apostle
Philippians 1:1- Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ
Titus 1:1- Paul, a bondservant of God, and an Apostle of Jesus Christ
Philemon 1:1- Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus
James 1:1- James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ
2 Peter 1:1- Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ
Jude 1:1- Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ
Revelation 1:1- The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants
2 Corinthians 4:5- For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus our Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus sake.
8- Hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed. Always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus. That the life of Jesus may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus sake.
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not.
So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ”
Do you have the humility, to let Jesus bend down before you, and wash your feet? Wash away the carnality, wash away the pride, wash away the dirt and the sin you picked up along the way. Are you willing to sacrifice your human effort? And receive the grace and power from the one who makes himself naked to wash away your dirt and grime by simply allowing him to serve you?
And will you be the one, to remove your garments, and get down where it is dirty, and ugly. The places people don’t want to go.
Will you wash their feet?
ELISHA
ELISHA
2 Kings 2:2–13 (NKJV)
Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they went down to Bethel.
Now the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?” And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent!”
Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they came to Jericho.
Now the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?” So he answered, “Yes, I know; keep silent!”
Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So the two of them went on.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood facing them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan.
Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
And so it was, when they had crossed over (when you have endurance, loyalty, you can run the race, you will cross over), that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”
Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.
He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
Elisha served Elijah for aprox 6-10 years
Elaborate
You cannot lead unless you have been led
You cannot have authority unless your under authority
Check your motives
The mantle fell because of his servanthood
Longevitiy
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
