1. Who is the Holy Spirit ?
a. We here a lot about Him, but how do we receive Him and what
does He do for us?
b. God has told us, through scripture the exact attributes of His supernatural and limitless power.
c. The ministry of the Holy Spirit in the early book of Acts is different from His ministry today in the age of grace.
2. Paul tells us through his epistles that the Holy Spirit has the power to control the life of a Christian if we ask and allow Him to do so. Lets look at what scripture saws about these attributes in the order in which Paul mentions them.
a. Paul’s first mention of the Holy Spirit in Romans 1:3-4 says the Spirit tells us that Jesus is the son of God
b. Paul’s next mention of the Holy Spirit in Romans 2:29 says the Spirit circumcises the heart.
c. In Romans 5:5 Jesus speaking through the apostle Paul says that the Holy Spirit pours out the love of God into our hearts.
d. Paul only mentions the Holy Spirit 3 times in the first 7 chapters of Romans, but in chapter 8 he hits us with Holy Spirit like a machine gun.
1. In Romans 8:1, Paul tells us the Holy Spirit guides us in our daily walk with the Lord.
2. In Romans 8:2 he tells us that the Spirit has set us free from the law of Moses.
3. In Romans 8:5-6, 10-11, 2 Corinthians 3:6 he tells us the Spirit gives us life and peace.
4. In Romans 8:9 he tells us that if we’re saved we walk by the Spirit. But if not we are lost.
5. In Romans 8:13 he tells us the Spirit aids us in putting to death the misdeeds of the body.
6. In Romans 8:15-16, Galatians 4:7 he tells us that the Spirit assures us that we are children of God.
7. In Romans 8:26-27 he tells us that the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses and intercedes for us in our prayers just like Jesus.
8. In Romans 9:1 Paul tells us the Spirit bears witness for us.
9. In Romans 14:17 he says the Spirit brings us righteousness, peace and joy.
10. In Romans 15:13-19, 1 Corinthians 2:4, Ephesians 3:16 Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit gives us power and sanctifies us (sets us apart)from the rest of mankind.
3. Paul’s attributes of the Holy Spirit in his other epistles.
a. In 1 Corinthians 1:10-12, Paul, the apostle to the gentiles, tells us the Spirit reveals and searches all things.
b. In 1 Corinthians 2:13, 16, he says the Spirit teaches us through the mind of Christ.
c. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19, Ephesians 2:21-22 Paul tells us the Holy Spirit dwells within us.
d. In 1 Corinthians 6:11 the Spirit justifies us in the name of the Lord Jesus.
e. In 1 Corinthians 12:3 the Spirit will not allow us to use the Lords name in vain.
f. In 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 Paul says the Spirit distributes all spiritual gifts to the Body of Christ.
g. I Corinthians 12:13 says the holy Spirit baptizes each believer into the Body of Christ.
h. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Ephesians 1:13-14 says our salvation is guarantied by the receiving of the Holy Spirit.
i. In 2 Corinthians 3:17 Paul tells us plainly that the Holy Spirit is God.
j. 2 Corinthians 5:2-5 says the Holy Spirit guaranties our new resurrected body.
k. Paul states in Ephesians 3:1-7 that the Holy Spirit revealed the
“mysteries of Christ” to him.
l. In Ephesians 5:8 Paul says the Spirit helps us bare good fruit.
m. Ephesians 5:18 says we are to be filled with the Holy Spirit. (what’s that mean ?)
4. The Holy Spirit of God is not some kind of force. He is the most powerful living being on this earth.
