The Judge:
Mat 25:31-33 “31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 “All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.”
Acts 17:30-31 “30 “Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, 31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.””
John 12:48 “48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.”
VERSE 26:
This verse summarizes the general point Jesus has been making in this passage. When criticized for violating human Sabbath traditions and claiming to be God, Jesus replies with even more specific claims.
He is identical to God in:
works (John 5:19),
love (John 5:20),
life-and-death power (John 5:21),
judgment (John 5:22),
and honor (John 5:23).
Jesus once again emphasizes the role He plays in eternal life.
John 1:4 “4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.”
John 14:6 “6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
Life, not ONLY means the continuation of existence, but also the POWER and NATURE of God.
“Life is what you make it” … Life is what God has MADE! … He IS the life!
Daniel 7:13-14 “13 “I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. 14 “And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.”
Points to a Messiah.
But in our passage “Son of Man” isn’t just a claim to power, but to prophesy and divinity!
1 Thes 4:13-18 “13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
