Big Idea: Jesus is fully God and fully Human
Aim: Jesus, who is fully God and fully human, gives us identity and purpose.
I. Introduction 2 minutes
- Identity- knowing who Jesus is gives us our identity and purpose in life.
II. Fully God - John 1:1-13 minutes
a. Evidence: (John 1:1-5)
i. The word 1:1
ii. The Creator (Genesis) 1:2
iii. The source of life/Light 1:3-5
b. Witness: 6-13 (Evidence demands a witness)
i. Makes Jesus known (believe)-> (1:6-9)
ii. Response to Jesus as God (1:10-12)
c. Why: So we could become children of God (1:13)
i. Why do we care that Jesus is fully God?
Principle: Jesus is fully God and the source of life.
Application: What is your response to Jesus as God?
III. Fully Human- John 1:14-18 minutes
a. Evidence
i. Became flesh (human) (1:14)
ii. Dwelt among us (1:14)
iii. We have seen his glory (1:14)
1. DOCTRINE: God the Son
b. Witness: John the Baptist (1:15)
c. Why: 1:16-18
i. Grace 1:16
ii. Truth 1:17
iii. To make the father known 1:18
Principle: Jesus, the God the Son, is fully human and reveals God the Father.
