As I come forward at end of worship
SLIDE 1 “WELCOME GLAD TO SEE YOU”
Words of encouragement from worship
Well today we finish the book of Revelation
SLIDE 2 “REVELATION CHAPTER 21 & 22”
Before we do just a few things that bring on all things made new
At the end of Jesus 1000 year reign of His new kingdom
SLIDE 3
1000 YEAR REIGN OF CHRIST
*Satan chained in abyss
*those with Christ beheaded for their testimony, did not worship the beast or take the mark
*rest of the dead do not come back to life till 1000 years completed
SLIDE 4
1000 YEARS COMPLETED
*Satan released from his prison
*deceives the nations to make war (saints /beloved city)
*fire from heaven devours those of war
*Satan is thrown in lake of fire with false prophet and beast
SLIDE 5
GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT OF GOD
*all the dead great and small stand before the throne
*books were opened (including book of life)
*dead judged according to their deeds
*death and Hades thrown in lake of fire
*dead not found in the book of life thrown in lake of fire
A couple of things before we move on
The hear say or teaching that the saints will not be at the great white throne judgement is debunked
Look at this verse that just described on last slide
SLIDE 6
Revelation 20:12 (NASB95)
12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.
Three key points in this verse if you look with me
#1 all the books are opened including book of life
#2 all the dead from things written in the books, we see its plural
#3 the word deeds is main key point for gaining insight
Let’s look at some cross references to back this up
first this verse here in Matthew is the verse listed as the cross reference from Revelation 20:12 we just read....Jesus speaking here
SLIDE 7
Matthew 16:27 (NASB95)
27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.
So which man gets repaid for his deeds
This verse here then where Jesus is talking then connects us to a whole slew of cross references for deeds
Here is a few check it out
SLIDE 8
11 Once God has spoken;
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God;
12 And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,
For You recompense a man according to his work.
SLIDE 9
12 If you say, “See, we did not know this,”
Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts?
And does He not know it who keeps your soul?
And will He not render to man according to his work?
I had given Romans 2:6 last week but this next one really validates Revelation 20:12 big time, its found here in 2 Corinthians and its quit amazing
SLIDE 10
2 Corinthians 5:9–10 (NASB95)
9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
First thing we have to remind ourselves is isn’t there a verse where those in Christ ....He remembers our sins no more? As far as the east to the west (Psalm 103 ;12 okay)
But sin is not a deed, its a wage......”for the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus”
Deed - weather in Greek or Hebrew is always work or doing or the word work in Greek or Hebrew is deed
So sin comes from a bad deed or offense to God .....the payment for that or wage is death.....but if you have believed and confessed Jesus as Lord of your life......death isn’t the payment or wages anymore .......now its the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.....grace overrides wage
Now our desire because we are a new creation in Christ is to learn from Christ, be like Christ and to live for God and please Him
We maintain a heart of repentance along the way when we do sin and the key word Paul used is do not practice sin
We will see how John describes our continual actions in faith through Christ in the end of Rev here shortly
Okay lets move on and so this is what else you and I will get to see one day in eternity
SLIDE 11
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
SLIDE 12
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
SLIDE 13
5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”
6 Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.
7 “He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.
Now you see the overcomes part there in verse 7 , the Greek definition for overcomes- is hold fast to the faith, have the victory
That’s very very important because if your not an overcomer then you get the but in the next verse
SLIDE 14
8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Now John gets focused back on the holy city by an angel
SLIDE 15
9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
SLIDE 16
10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
11 having the glory of God. Her brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.
This is the second time John has been carried away in the Spirit
In chapter 17 the Spirit carried John into the wilderness and showed him the great harlot Babylon.....what he saw was a woman dressed in scarlet with blasphemous names and having seven heads and ten horns
Ezekiel experienced this, Philip while baptizing the eunuch was snatched away by the Spirit, and Paul experienced this also, look at how he described his experience
SLIDE 17
2 I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my body, I don’t know—only God knows. 3 Yes, only God knows whether I was in my body or outside my body. But I do know 4 that I was caught up to paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell.
This was such an amazing experience for Paul but yet he kept silent about it for 14 years
Even in this account does not tell what he saw at the third heaven.......I have a feeling why.....first it says he didn’t have the words to describe, but I feel God told him John will do this in the book of Revelation
And that’s what we are seeing now in Rev 21 lets read on
SLIDE 18
11 having the glory of God. Her brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.
12 It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.
Again this is the holy city coming down from heaven and notice what he calls it.......her
In verse 9 just two previous verses …the angel who is showing Him this says ”I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb”
So he says he saw her brilliance like a costly stone like crystal clear jasper.......great high wall......twelve gates.....twelve angels.....names on each gate were the twelve tribes of Israel
the twelve tribes were the twelve sons of Jacob whose name God changed to Israel
Lets see more about her brilliance
SLIDE 19
13 There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
SLIDE 20
15 The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its wall.
16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal.
So this image does a good job describing from these verses
SLIDE 21 “THE HOLY CITY”
While this picture stays up let me go back and read some of the verses again to you while you look at it
Now i’m going to read on verses 17-23 while and you can continue to look at the generated picture
17 And he measured its wall, seventy-two yards, according to human measurements, which are also angelic measurements.
18 The material of the wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.
19 The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;
20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
So there are twelve gates and each being a pearl and each being open
So maybe John experienced something like this up close
SLIDE 22 “PEARL GATE”
The foundation stones he described with the tribes of Israel on them and one of the twelve pearl gates open
As this slide stays up I’ll continue to read verses 24-27
24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed;
26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;
27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Now John describes the inside and that how chapter 22 starts and I’ll read while you look at the next slide as if entering through one of the pearl gates
SLIDE 23 “RIVER OF WATER OF LIFE”
1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,
2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;
4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
SLIDE 24
6 And he said to me, “These words are faithful and true”; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place.
7 “And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book.”
SLIDE 25
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
9 But he said to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God.”
This is known as the final charge
SLIDE 26
10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.
11 “Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy.”
Remember that I told you John would confirm here the actions and lifestyle of the followers of Christ and bring all full circle about we learned about deeds
He’s also showing the lifestyle of the unbeliever in the first part of verse 11
The next verse here also a full circle about deeds.....Jesus first said it in Matthew 16 and now finishing it here
SLIDE 27
12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.
13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and Omega being the last
Again in next verse more of the contrasting lifestyles of believers and unbelievers........and the outcome or results
SLIDE 28
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.
15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.
SLIDE 29
16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
SLIDE 30
18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.
SLIDE 31
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
