Biblical Principles

Fellow heirs partake of the same promise

In the natural life, inheritance is divided among the heirs (children)
there is no sharing of inheritance
sometimes, there is coveting of the inheritance of another
Isaac and Jacob were joint heirs with their father Abraham - Heb 11.8
Hebrews 11:8 NASB 2020
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he left, not knowing where he was going.
the land was not divided among them!
Abraham did not leave an inheritance to Isaac
it was not his to give - it was God’s property!
Notice - God spoke to Isaac and Jacob in the same He spoke to their father
The Saints and joint heirs with Christ - Romans 8.16-17
Romans 8:16–17 NASB 2020
16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Notice the order of the words -
children - by the Holy Spirit’s witness
heirs - children are heirs
heirs of God - we are children of God
fellow heirs with Christ - we are children as well, but Christ is the appointed heir of all things - Hebrews 1:2 “in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made the world.”

Fellow heirs live together

Isaac and Jacob lived in the same tent and place with Abraham - Heb 11.8
they were promised the land of Canaan
Isaac was advised not to depart - Gen 26.1-6
Genesis 26:1–6 NASB 2020
1 Now there was a famine in the land, besides the previous famine that had occurred in the days of Abraham. So Isaac went to Gerar, to Abimelech king of the Philistines. 2 And the Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; stay in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Live for a time in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham. 4 I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, 5 because Abraham obeyed Me and fulfilled his duty to Me, and kept My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” 6 So Isaac lived in Gerar.
When Jacob went to Syria, God called him back to Canaan - Gen 31.3
Genesis 31:3 NASB 2020
3 Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”
Genesis 31:13 NASB 2020
13 ‘I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a memorial stone, where you made a vow to Me; now arise, leave this land, and return to the land of your birth.’ ”

Joint heirs share in everything

God has revealed to Paul the mystery of God’s plan in Christ
Ephesians 3:4–6 NASB 2020
4 By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which in other generations was not made known to mankind, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; 6 to be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,
Notice the words used here -
fellow heirs - grk synkleronomos
fellow members - grk. syssomos, belonging to the same body
fellow partakers - grk. symmetochos, having a share in the same thing (promise in Christ)
Gentiles and Jews will both receive the same promise -
the Holy Spirit - Acts 15.8-9
Acts 15:8–9 NASB 2020
8 And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; 9 and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
Acts 15:11 NASB 2020
11 But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are.”
In the same way, the Believers will partake in the same things that Christ experienced! - Romans 8.17
Romans 8:17 NASB 2020
17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
he suffered - so we MUST also
he was glorified - so we shall be!

Fellow heirs help each other

Husbands and wives live together to help each other - 1 Pet 3.7
1 Peter 3:7 NASB 2020
7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Notice the words used -
Peter speaks to the husband
the husband must with his wife in an understanding way
the husband must show honor to his wife
BECAUSE they are fellow heirs!
When husbands and wives support each other, the enjoy the rewards of answered prayer together!

Fellow heirs bless each other

1 Peter 3:8–9 NASB 2020
8 To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, loving, compassionate, and humble; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you would inherit a blessing.
Since all Christians are fellow heirs in Christ -
All Christians are advised to live together -
in harmony
in sympathy to one another
loving one another
compassionate to one another
humble
being a blessing to each other

Conclusion

Since we are all partakers of the same promise of God - (what then?)
Let us learn to live with each other as brothers and sisters!
enjoy the fellowship we have in this life
learn to like one another according to the measure of the gift of God to each other
Let us share in one another’s burden!
don’t just enjoy the good times
join in the suffering of your fellow heirs!
2 Timothy 1:8 NASB 2020
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,
Galatians 6:1–2 NASB 2020
1 Brothers and sisters, even if a person is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you are not tempted as well. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.
The sharing we do today - in good and bad times - is a clear indication that we are partakers together with Christ in glory!
2 Timothy 2:10–12 NASB 2020
10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. 11 The statement is trustworthy: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him; 12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He will also deny us;
