The Universe Declares the Glory of God
The Universe Declares the Glory of God
Good Evening,
The Millers asked me to speak this evening. David wrote in Psalm 19:1–2 “1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. 2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” We see God’s hand in the universe, in the complex computer language of DNA, in the nano-structures found in the wings of a butterfly, we see it in the beauty of the sunrise and sunset. The universe declares the Glory of God David tells us, but He is not an impersonal or distant god. He has given us His true word that both shows us our need of Him and His coming son.
David writes in Psalm 14:2–3 “2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.”
All of us have turned aside, all of us are corrupt, none of us do good. If we look at the 10 commandments, we all have broken some of them. If we have ever taken God’s name in vain, lied, stolen, committed adultery, and in Matthew 5 Jesus says
Matthew 5:27–28 “27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Jesus tells us that if we look at our brother in anger we are guilty of murder.
Matthew 5:21–22 “21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”
Each of us are guilty, in the eyes of God. The commandments are His perfect Law and we will each be judged by them when we die and each of us will be found guilty.
But God promised a redeemer someone who would save us from the sin we each are guilty of. We see this in Isaiah 53:3–7 “3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.”
He was pierced for our sins, he was crushed for our iniquities, and by his stripes we can be healed. He laid down His life so we might have eternal life and a relationship with Him. In Him we can find peace through the Grace he offers.
Jesus said in John 14:6 “6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
This salvation comes through faith in Jesus
Ephesians 2:8–9 “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
I ask each one of you, if you haven’t already to put your faith in Jesus the holy eternal son of God. Who laid down his life for you that through Him and his resurrection you can have new life.
