The bible definitely makes a differentiation between the non-believer and the believer..between the non-believer and the unfaithful or faithless.
1 My son, keep my words, And lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; And my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, Write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; And call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, From the stranger which flattereth with her words.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, A young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; And he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening, In the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman With the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; Her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, And lieth in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, And with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me; This day have I payed my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, With carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: Let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 For the goodman is not at home, He is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, And will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, With the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, And attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, Go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: Yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, Going down to the chambers of death.
those that are void of understanding can and will be easily swayed by the flattery of this world.
the bible says that men loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds where evil....their deeds where seemingly hidden from sight because of the darkness
but We have a God that sees all and knows all
I used to think that the unfaithful people where those that didn’t believe in God or Jesus.....those that straight up denied God.
but i have come to realize that this is not entirely true and not consistent with a unfaithful or faithless person.
People that deny God and don’t believe cannot be unfaithful because they have no faith in the first place.
They don’t put their faith and trust in God....but rather in this world.
If we take a look at words that are consistent or synonomous with unfaithful or faithlessness…we see the following:
Transgression:
infringement or violation of a law, command, or duty
breaking trust with one who should have been trustworthy
28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Backslide
Trespass
Covenant Breakers
Traitor
Apostate
Wanton disloyalty
These words are a picture of unfaithful or unfaithfulness
Backslide:
to lapse morally or in the practice of religion
to revert to a worse condition : RETROGRESS
Trespass:
a violation of moral or social ethics : TRANSGRESSION
especially : SIN
Covenant Breakers:
a usually formal, solemn, and binding agreement
a written agreement or promise usually under seal between two or more parties especially for the performance of some action
Traitor:
one who betrays another's trust or is false to an obligation or duty (this being know in the Bible as Transgression)
Apostate:
an act of refusing to continue to follow, obey, or recognize a religious faith
abandonment of a previous loyalty : DEFECTION (conscious abandonment of allegiance or duty: a deserter
Story of the plane that defected when i was in Korea.....
wanton disloyalty:
disloyalty with no regard to right or wrong and in complete opposition to commitment and agreement
disloyal by choice to our commitment and covenant with God
All these words describe what we would call unfaithful or faithlessness
when we consider Faith and Faithless, we realize that the two words are not exactly in the same class.
The word faith normally connote trust, confidence, and hope;
Whereas faithless would more accurately describe a relationship—(not merely any relationship but) in the context of a broken relationship—between persons, between peoples, or between God and His people Israel or his children in general.
“Faithless” characterizes a lack of loyalty on the part of either or both parties in a relationship governed by covenant stipulations.
has anyone heard of the phrase, relationship banking:
this meaning banking that is based upon an agreement that is binding and legal (usually through a loan or some other types of business that is legally entered into by 2 or multiple parties)
The business conducted between the 2 parties creates a relationship or an agreement of such....With the idea of establishing a good relationship or a relationship based upon trust.
the relationship we have with Christ is bound by his blood…this is a covenant of “blood and water”
This is a relationship based on trust and commitment....upon Faithfulness
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
We have a relationship with God…through his son Jesus Christ and through the covenant of his blood....to abstain from sin and the ways of the world.
23 Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
The Saving Side of Grace and Faithfulness
The Saving Side of Grace and Faithfulness
Though “Faithless” characterizes a lack of loyalty on the part of either or both parties in a relationship governed by covenant stipulations
it is not so much an attitude as the actions expressive of that attitude.
do we practice what we preach…to we live up to the standard set forth to the best of our ability?
or do we just want the visual relationship to be seen for conscience sake?
Are we in it to win it....or in it to appease our conscience.
Within the sphere of secular law, a marriage partner who committed adultery was “faithless” or “unfaithful” and therefore liable for divorce
This is because a person entered into an agreement and then backed out later and transgressed the agreement.
21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the Lord their God.
22 Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.
23 Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel.
The author of this passage used the root šûḇ, “turn,” “return” (which was common treaty or covenant language
“Return, turnable [or faithless] children, and I shall heal your turnings [faithlessness]”
This verse illustrates that the prophets announced not only punishment for unfaithful Israel but also Yahweh’s overriding desire to heal the relationship
It is not Gods’ desire to leave his people in a state of sin and confusion....in a state of undone-ness (so to speak)
but his desire is to restore and to heal
he wants to restore and to maintain his children to a right relationship and to heal that which is broken.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
As I stated earlier: The bible definitely makes a differentiation between the non-believer and the believer..between the non-believer and the unfaithful or faithless.
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
We, as children have a reward and a promise coming if we remain faithful; but not so for the unfaithful or faithless....
Not so to those who have put their hand to the plow but looking back, have lost their way.
Our prayers for one another are so vitally important and so very necessary.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Part of our job here on earth is to uplift and to pray for one another....
not to become jealous of or to become critical of
not to tear down the well doing of our brother..... but to encourage, to esteem and to hold them up in prayer before our God.
It is so easy for things to become clouded by our lives our disappointments and our angers
to let the cares of this life destroy our purpose.
but life is not merely about losing in this life only, but in the chance of losing out on what really matter......Salvation.
I’m reminded of the song that Art used to sing....”Just a closer walk with thee”
