Once your heart has been moved by the gospel so that you truly believe that Jesus died so that God no longer holds you liable for your deviation from His commandments, you no longer need to fear death. But that’s not the end of it. Now you must choose day by day, moment by moment, to follow Jesus’ example of obedience, or your own will, in the pursuit of happiness. We call that ‘walking with Christ’ or ‘running the race.’ We liken the running part to those hard choices in life. To choose to do things God’s way takes a lot more effort than reading your bible and being really nice to people.
To run well, you must practice, but also equip yourself properly. Pastor Harrison’s message today gives us some insight into the types of things we might want to put on, and several suggestions of things to let go of, so that we may run this race effectively.
