Introduction (5m)

Janet

Gent in park - always smiling.
Because of her faith in Jesus - not a line!

General and Commissioner Bronwyn

Something different about them.
Prioritise being as much as doing.

It’s Not What You Do But Who You Are That Counts in the Kingdom

Explanation (5m)

Peter and John had done a big thing

Healing > believers to 5,000.

They could have described themselves in many ways, but identity challenged by Sanhedrin

v.7 = Who are you?!

Prejudice and arrogance threatened their identity

Written off as ordinary men, no Scripture training.

But their boldness and courage - who they were - could not be ignored

v.13: They had been with Jesus.
Something different about them.
Boldness and courage, focused not on what they had done, but who they were.
Focused only on glorifying God.

That was the difference between the Sanhedrin and Peter and John

Sanhedrin - wealth, position, authority.
Peter and John - identity in Christ.
Like difference between Richard Burton and his old vicar.

The evidence of a life spent with Jesus is incontrovertible

v.14 - healed man there, so they couldn’t say anything.
Love, joy (smile!), peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control - all incontrovertible evidence.

Application (5m)

We often speak of this place being a beacon of light to those around us

That is only possible if we are people who spend significant time with Jesus.
When you spend prolonged and deep time with someone, you can’t help talk about them - Gail, Harley, SSCA Staff.
That’s how it should be with Jesus.
Daily devotions, prayer, Bible Study, worship, Growth Groups, living a holy life - all so that we become more like him - “he/she has been with Jesus”.

What evidence is there in your life to show others you have been with Jesus?

Love, joy (smile!), peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control - all incontrovertible evidence.
