Introduction

Look at someone and tell them, I WILL RECOVER.
The word recovery is defined as “the action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost.” In other words in order to recover something it has to have been stolen or lost at some point or another. Recovery is the process or time of getting it back. If I can examine the house to see if I have some real people in the building, some of us can testify and agree that we have lost some stuff. We know what loss looks like, sound like, and feel like, but I come here to tell you that you time and season of loss is about to come to a close, it’s about to end, it’s now time to walk into your season of Recovery. Tell somebody I will Recover.

Background

Our text today sets in the 30th Chapter of the first book of Samuel. To understand the significance of the text, it is important to understand the background of the text. David has found refuge in the land of the Philistines. I know that sounds backwards being just last week our preacher reminded us of how David cut the head of Goliath off, who was in fact a philistine. But David had to find shelter in the enemies camp because his King, King Saul was out to kill him. What do you do when the folk who suppose to have your back, leaves you uncovered? What do you do, when the people who suppose to be praying for you (p-r-a-y), is preying on you (p-r-e-y)? What do you do when you look all around and find yourself all by yourself? Can I pause here and encourage someone and tell you, it’s in these moments where you can stand on the words of the old hymn, “Like a ship tossed and driven, battered by an angry sea, when the storms of life are raging, and the fury falls on me, I look up and wonder why, good fortune seems to pass me by, then I say to my soul, take courage, THE LORD WILL MAKE A WAY SOMEHOW. Is there anyone here that know that the Lord WILL make a way? Why don’t you find you a neighbor and tell that neighbor, Somehow and someway, the Lord WILL make a way. If you believe it clap your hands.
He’s finds refuge in an unexpected place and he finds friendship in a unexpected person. David finds himself in the good graces of King Achish, who upon the request of David, gives him the city of Ziklag.
Soon after the Philistines finds themselves preparing to fight against Israel and King Achish gets David who is prepared to fight along side him. But when he prepares to go to battle, the Lord’s of the Philistines looked and asked the question, how do we know the David once we get to battle won’t deflect to the other side and begin to fight us? This is not hard to imagine when you consider, remember how moses when he say the Egyptian soldier beating up an Hebrew slave, went and killed the soldier? So it’s not too hard to think of.
They said to Achish, isn’t this the same David who they once sung the song, “Saul have killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands?” Is not this the SAME David who took the head off of Goliath our champion, no send him back to Ziklag. The fact of the matter is that Davids loyalty was in question by the Philistines but not by David because he asks the King the question, when have I ever gave you a reason to feel like you can’t trust me? David was ready to go to war for Achish. But was sent home.
Can I submit to you that there are some battles in life that God DOES NOT want us in? There are some things in life that God does not want us to be a part of. That’s why you have to be careful of people dragging you into their fights. I know that your bro, that’s your sis, your son, your daughter, your bestie, but that’s THEIR fight and somethings God doesn’t want you to be a part of. The best thing you can do is pray for them. But see the issue we have in the world as well as the church is a lot of us are busy bodies. We got to be in everything, we got to know everything. Do you know that even listening to something will drag you down. You were feeling good and then you sat there and got on your phone and gossiped about what someone else have going on and now you tired and lethargic, and you want to know what’s happening. You are in someone else’s battle. Let me put it like this, our text, if David and his men would have been home rather than preparing to fight someone else’s battle they wouldn’t have been caught off guard.
See this is what you have to realize about group of people that attacked Ziklag. The Amalekies were dirty they didn’t fight fair. So they waited until the very moment that Ziklag was not prepared, they waited until Ziklag was uncovered and then they found their time to pounce. If David was home, they would have easily been able to repel the attack from the Amalekites.
