welcome everyone
Continue to talk about the series
recap the last two weeks
this is how we grow…
Lets Pray
talk about the story of Amway and how you had no clue what it was about until you went to the big conference which excited and motivated you
anytime i felt discouraged the mentor would take me to another meeting and once again i would be encouraged
compare this to church
talk about growing up hearing, “show me who your friends are and ill tell you who you are....”
talk business, “they say if you want to be a millionaire, hang around other millionaires...”
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
when we get together with one another we are able to uplift each other, encourage each other, and pray with one another.....
this is why its important for the body to gather, not to make the pastor look like he has a big congregation, all though that might be the case for some, but because that is how we encourage and uplift each other...
talk about Covid and online church
talk about loneliness and depression, 47.1% of people battling depression is because of feeling lonely.....
talk about guarding our hearts and our minds....
we talked at the beginning of this series that the foundation to growth is guarding our hearts and minds....
talk about our hearts and minds
taking a step back, resting, to look at those weak spots in our life that need guarding, the movies we watch, talk we engage in, music we listen to, activities we partake in....so on and so forth
and its in that rest, its in that time that we hear those things through the word of God and prayer that we are able to know what we need to guard
then we reach out to our church family for the help and encouragement
Iron sharpens iron,
and one man sharpens another.
talk about what iron sharpening iron means....
now talk the church and bringing people in
now we are hear we are coming to church we are learning we are growing we are encouraging each other now what??
talk about the story in exodus
And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.
build context
explain that some of us come and gather for ourselves, we learn, we grow, we get fed the word of God, and then we go home and do nothing with it...
we are like those Israelites who gathered and it rotted
we are to give back, not just eat for ourselves, but now give back what we have the gifts that we are given....
eph 4.11-12
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
preach on this
that also means mentorship…we can enhance our growth as believers, children of God by mentoring others....
This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
preach on mentorship....
