Read 1 Peter 1:15
14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
This is our passage for this series
And this week we will talk about the one who called you as peter puts it
As we begin this discussion the first thing I want us to see is in verse 14 peter end with “you former ignorance”
In this discussion of Holiness we see that at some point we were ignorant of our call
We didnt know we were supposed to be called out to be seperate
Satan would love for you to stay there
Dont be different becuase
It will make people mad
Someone might get offended
People may not like you
you might stand out and get noticed for being different
And because of these lies we conform to passions of the world
Because we believe satans lies that we shouldnt be different
we try to fit in
We compromise in order to be liked
We dont say what we believe because we dont want people to be offended
The worst thing for us is to stand out as different because people may notice and when they do what will they say about you
So to be Holy means we must not conform and remain in this lie of our former ignorance
Our former lack of knowledge
But we ought to be Holy because we know what holiness is because we know the one who is Holy
So our discussion of Holiness must start here at the God who is Holy
The Holiness of God
Read Isaiah 6:1-4
1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
The splendor of God
Our God who is perfect worshiped exalted on high
This is the Holy God
He sits on a throne and the train of his Robe fills the temple
His glory fills the temple
This is the God who is set apart who exists apart from us
Our vision of God must be so high
Jesus is my home boy
we need him to be so high
Read Revelation 15:3-4
3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,
“Great and amazing are your deeds,
O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations!
4 Who will not fear, O Lord,
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
God alone is Holy
God alone is the one the nations worship
God alone is holy
