Trustworthy

Introduction
Recap -> Holy, Infinite, Omnipresence.
What is trustworthy?
Trustworthy -> Able to be relied on as honest and truthful.
How do we know if someone is trustworthy? It is usually something that is earned.
The question I want to look into is: So how do we know God is trustworthy?
Point 1
Examples in the Bible
Psalm 18:30 ESV
This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
Not only does the Bible says God is trustworthy, we can trust God because He has proven Himself trustworthy throughout time. We have a record of it in the Bible.
8810 promises, many of them are fulfilled in the Bible.
Adam and Eve -> After they sin God promises that Eve’s offspring will crush the serpent. That is fulfilled in Jesus.
Abraham - I will make you a great nation, close to 100 years old, waited 25 years.
Radshac, Meshak, and Abendigo -> They trusted God. Daniel 3:16–18 “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.””
Joesph -> Was betrayed by his brothers, was faithful and rose as a servant, but then was thrown into prison for doing the right thing. But he trust God and God was with Him and what others meant for evil, God meant for good.
Point 2
Examples in others lives
We can trust God because He has proven Himself trustworthy in other’s lives.
When I was first interested in Faith, I asked others about her. I got a better understanding of the type of person she was based on other’s experiences.
This is why we have testimony Sundays. This is why it is good to surround yourself with other believers who share how God is working in their lives.
Brother Andrew
Brad Bigney -> Not wanting to be a pastor. Didn’t think he would be a good pastor. Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Micah Greenhill -> Prayed specifically and trusted that God would bring the right person.
Point 3
Examples in our lives
One of the best ways to know that God is trustworthy is by remembering how He has shown us that He is worthy of our trust.
This is one of the most exciting things about being a Christian for a long period of time. The longer you walk with God, the more you will be able to look back and see How God has been faithful over the years.
CSF -> Trust me, be faithful for what I called you to today. Look at my life now.
Date with Faith
Salvation -> Sanctification -> My own salvation. How do I know Jesus’ blood was enough? I see God changing me and growing me.
If we have all of this proof, why do we doubt?
Sin.
Wanting to be God.
Thinking we’d know best.
We don’t know what God has promised.
We need to know God’s promises.
Conclusion
However, we forget… All the time. Think about the Israelites and how often they would forget all that God had done for them. This is why God had them celebrate different holidays. It was in order to remind them of His faithfulness.
The wind -> Even though I don’t see Him, He will never leave me nor forsake me.
Snow - > Make you white as snow.
We need to remind ourselves that God is worthy of our trust.
Discussion Questions
Of the three ways to remind ourselves of God being trustworthy (The Bible, others, our lives), which area do you want to work on? (Read the Bible looking for ways God has proven Himself worthy of our trust, talking to other Christians more and hearing how God is working in their lives, or reminding yourself of how God has worked in your life)
Marking our Bibles with “Trustworthy” next to passages that show it.
Asking people “How is God working in your life?”
Keeping a prayer journal or “God sighting” journal.
Why is it hard to trust God? Why do we doubt God?
