Love- everything flows from Love

1 John 3:1 CSB
See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children—and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him.

love Given-

“What great love”— The Love of God is what John is speaking of-
Romans 5:8 CSB
But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John is telling us to “wonder at the kind, the quantity, and the quality of the love that God has freely given without merit”
Look at the amazing love that God has given.
Romans 8:35–39 CSB
Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The quality of the Love- it takes us and makes us more then conquers
Because it makes us Children of God
- We aren’t begotten like Jesus
But because of the Love of God displayed for us in Jesus Christ- we are adopted as Children
Romans 8:15 CSB
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!”
Galatians 4:5 CSB
to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
The ones who are the children of God do the things that God does-
1 John 2:29 CSB
If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well: Everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
111   God’s children are God’s children anywhere and everywhere, and shall be even unto the end. Nothing can sever that sacred tie, or divide us from his heart.
Charles Spurgeon
“The Fatherhood of God” sermon (1858)
Charles Spurgeon

Natural Separation:

“ the reason the World doesn’t know us is that it didn’t know Him”
You have been redeem from the world-
Ephesians 2:1–5 CSB
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!
There is a complete transformation -
Contrast from Death to life
From darkness to light
from lust to love
They aren’t even close-
the life of the believer is in complete contrast to that of the World
Cain and Abel- they were completely different in their thinking, and action and both got different results!
1 John 3:11–12 CSB
For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another, unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.
Purity versus Practice of sin
John is going to speak to those who are adopted and the works of righteousness that they do- They follow Jesus.
1 John 2:29 CSB
If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well: Everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
there is new creation life-
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
Because Jesus Christ lived without sin- We have this hope of not just seeing Jesus, but also becoming like Jesus
We can do this because of of the Spirit is in us.
1, 2 & 3 John We are God’s Children / 3:1–9

The more pure his people become, the clearer will be their view of Jesus, who is pure through and through. God also purifies Christians, but they must take steps to remain morally fit

We are in the process of being made like Jesus- New creation life brings new creation
thinking
talking
Living
action
1, 2 & 3 John We are God’s Children / 3:1–9

THE CHRISTIAN’S HOPE

What does John mean by hope? God has a distinct plan in mind for each of our lives. He has prepared us for a lifetime of good works (Ephesians 2:10). Beyond that, he has a higher and nobler goal: to make us like Christ (3:2; Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 15:49; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Philippians 3:21)! Christlikeness is our destiny, and to those who struggle to overcome stubborn sins, it brings great hope. God’s plan cannot and will not be thwarted. In the words of John, one day “we shall be like him”! The question is, Are you working with God or against him in his great transformation project?

to continue in Sin is to deny the Work of Jesus
Purity is the life of the believer- When we are in Christ we have the ability to overcome sin and the curse of Sin
The Results of a life of sin is to remain in the curse of sin
Galatians 3:13 CSB
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, because it is written, Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.
Christ died so the complete curse can be broken in your life!
