Introduction
We’re in the 9th month of the year. The number 9 has a natural relationship to childbirth, in that it is generally true that having a baby is a 9 month process, with the 9th month being the month the child is expected to be born.
As believers we often express the coming forth of significant change or process in our lives in terms of birthing, and there is plenty of scripture to align with this metaphor.
Our discussions of birthing center around the promise being brought forth in a particular time, as would a promised child come forth at the appropriate time.
While we frequently talk about ‘birthing’ spiritually, we seem to have forgotten that birthing is a process that includes a lot of pain.
This pain was a declaration made by God at the Garden of Eden
English Standard Version Chapter 3
To the woman he said,
“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
in pain you shall bring forth children.
Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,
but he shall rule over you.”
So, this relationship between birthing and pain should be understood naturally and spiritually.
