Striving against Sin
Striving against Sin
1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.
The witness are those who went bebfore us (the prophets and patriachs) and strived against sin until they day they died.
Set free from sin
Set free from sin
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.
However will live in a world that is given over to sin.
We may be surrounded by sin but we must not be ruled by sin, we must not overcome by sin.
The characteristic of Sin

6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?
7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
When sin approaches us with the intent and desire to rule over us.
God’s response is not to interven and remove it from our midst, remove the temptation from us. Rather he come and tells to resist and rule over it.
It is the will of God, for us while being in the midst of sin we live as conquerers.
1 Kings 20:1-43.
37 I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.
38 I have wounded them, So that they could not rise; They have fallen under my feet.
