The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God.
And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”
Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
It was during this time on the Mountain that God was giving Moses the layout a plan for Isreal
From the construction of the Ark to the dimensions of the tabernacle to the linen to be worn by Aaron and the Priest.
Also God was giving Moses the commandments for the people to live by.
From Ex 24-32 God is giving Moses the play
#1 That was quick
When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”
Aaron was suppose to be in Charge....
The people gathered themselves together and said “Up, make us gods who shall go before us.”
We don’t know where this Moses is!
It’s interesting, it was just around 50 days From Passover to this point!
How quickly did Isreal revert back to their Egyptian ways…
They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
How quick were they to return back to what held them captive!
We must remember that Egypt represents a place that the children of Isreal was delivered from…
Why am I so quick to go back to what held me captive?
Just because I’m physically out of something doesn’t mean it’s internally out of me!
That’s why spiritual transformation is from the inside out!
It’s one thing to come out of Egypt but it’s another thing to get Egypt out of you!
#2 When Blessings Feeds Your Desires
So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
Where did they get the gold?
The people of Israel had also done as Moses told them, for they had asked the Egyptians for silver and gold jewelry and for clothing. And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.
They did not know that God was telling Moses what he wanted to do with the Gold…
And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze,
What was a blessings… Isreal used it to make a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
What do you do when your blessing becomes the source for feeding your desires?
#3 Do You Hear What I Hear
When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.
The people offered up offerings to the Idol gods
They ate / drank / and played
Play: to revel v. — To Revel (Rev-el): enjoy oneself in a lively and noisy way, especially with drinking and dancing. Often indulging in drinking and sexual activity including orgies.
It was lit!!!
When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
War: the waging of armed conflict against an enemy.
But he said, “It is not the sound of shouting for victory, or the sound of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing that I hear.”
Moses heard a chanting/singing… but Joshua heard WAR
Something is not right! I hear a fight…
God’s chosen people worshiping another God! Feeding their desires / Gratifying their flesh
As I began to think about this picture! one scripture hit me
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
What sound do you hear from me?
