1 Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5 And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
We think about Joseph and times he went through
but God raised him up, though he was in a pit, he was raised up to royalty
an encouraging story for believers today, though we might be in our own pit, God can reverse that situation anytime and anyway
and in this, he was able to help so many others
we are called to serve and help others in our lives, it should be important to us
here we see that the sons of jacob were only 70 people, that’s not a lot for a nation, one could say that they are in a tough spot as well
they had just been through famine and having to leave their homeland
if we think about Abraham and the promise that God made to him, it doesn’t look super good at this point
but ultimately, whether it be an easy journey or a hard one, we know that God does not forget about His people
and while His people may go through some toughness, He always brings them out the other side
and He gives us all these examples that we can look back on and see His promises always being fulfilled
6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
here we see the beginning of a new narrative
we see the slate wiped clean
7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
