We are finishing up our series on Parables
So far we have talked about the parable of the lost sheep, and the parable of the good Samaritan
In the first parable we see that God will do anything to chase us down - that he is seeking us and calls us to do the same
In the parable of the good Samaritan we see that we are called to love people just like the Samaritan loved the man that was bleeding out
Today we are looking at the last parable in the series

1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
Jesus starts off this parable by telling us that the Kingdom of Heaven will be like this parable
Quite literally the way that heaven will operate will be the same as the way the master of this house orchestrates the labors
2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’
Jesus then tells the parable of how the master goes out and gets people to work in his vineyard
He goes out early in the morning and agrees on a set price for the workers to come into the field and work
Later at 9 am, the master goes and grabs others to come and work in the field
He then goes again at noon and 3 pm and grabs more people to come and work in the field
Finally at 5 pm, with only one hour left, the master goes and grabs more people to come and work in the vineyard
There is plenty of work for everyone, and more and they are all expected to get paid some amount
At 6 pm, the end of the shift, the foreman goes out and rewards all the workers
9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius.
Miraculously all the workers received the same amount of money
It didn’t matter if the person was in the field the entire day, or for simply an hour the master decided to pay all the workers the same amount of money
The master showed great grace to the workers that came in late, the deserved a lesser amount of money, yet he showed love to them by paying them the full amount
11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ 13 But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”
The ones who had been there from the beginning were upset because they felt like they should have received more money since they were there longer
This leads to the master talking to them telling them they agreed on the amount they would be paid, and that it is his money to give, he is allowed to give freely to whoever he wants
It’s not up to them what others receive
Jesus finishes off the parable by telling the disciples that the first will be last, and last shall be first

Jesus, remember, tells us this parable to illustrate to us what the Kingdom of Heaven will like
In the parable God is the master, and the believers are the workers in the field, the foreman paying the debts is Jesus
So what is Jesus teaching us here?
We don’t deserve Jesus’ love
We don’t deserve Jesus’ love
We don’t deserve Jesus’ love
The workers in the parable deserved compensation for the work they have done
They were in the field, the did a job that needed to be done, and they deserved their money
Heres the big difference between us and them, we don’t deserve compensation
We constantly choose the wrong option, we constantly go against God
We are continually sinful
We constantly do everything in our power to rebel against God
Yet listen to what Jesus did
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
While we are still sinful - Jesus came and died for us anyways
We are constantly sinful and don’t deserve the love of Jesus
We don’t deserve His sacrifice yet he sent Jesus anyways
We are not greater than anyone else - we are not worthy of Jesus’ love
The workers had something that they could offer the master of the vineyard - they had a job they could provide, a service that was worth payment
We have nothing that is worthy to God - we have nothing that deserves His love - we are worthless
Yet Jesus offers us love anyways
Jesus’ full love is for everyone
Jesus’ full love is for everyone
Here’s the second thing
Jesus’ full love is for everyone
Jesus offers His full love to everyone
He offers his sacrifice and forgiveness to everyone
Regardless of how bad, or how good you are
He offers his mercy and grace
Just like the master gave all who worked in the field the same amount of money, so does Jesus offer everyone forgiveness and new life in Him
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus tells us that he came for the whole world
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The he is offering eternal life to all people
Regardless of who you are or what you have done
We have mentioned this before - but you are NEVER to far from God that He can’t save you
You just have to go to Him
He offers his mercy to everyone equally
Time will run out
Time will run out
Here’s the last thing that the parable teaches us
Time will run out
The offer of the master going and bringing people into the vineyard to work eventually came to an end
The ones that came and worked for him all recieved the same amount, but all those who did not come received nothing
Students the last thing Jesus is teaching is that time will eventually run out
He is accepting people to him all the time - but eventually the day will end
Eventually the time for saving will end
You won’t be able to get to God, you won’t be able to reach Him - you will be forced to pay for your sins on your own
You’ll be eternally separated from God
If you don’t know Jesus as Savior don’t wait!
Ask questions and seek Jesus today - because eventually time will run out
Eventually that free gift of salvation will be gone and you’ll be left to face God’s wrath for your sin

Conclusion
This parable is so powerful in that it teaches us that we don’t deserve God’s love we are so far from Him and have nothing to offer
It teaches us that no matter how far we are, he offers us his full unconditional love
And it teaches us that time is short, the day will end
