So a few weeks ago i mentioned we are going to take a look at the gifts of the spirit.
The gifts are things that God says will be evidences that we are filled with the spirit.
New Car: Title.
You live in the spirit now. but when you have the boldness and the courage to partake in the evidence. The measure of which How much God is truly in you. You show an evidence.
What are these evidences?
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
In this passage it says there are gifts but they all come from the same spirit.
They are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.
Paul lists the following spiritual gifts: word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, distinguishing spirits, various kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
Anyways…we’re going to talk about the gifts of the Spirit, not just those listed..by the way can anyone list some of the gifts?
Wisdom
Word of knowledge
Faith
Healing
Miracles
Prophecy
Discernment
Distinguishing spirits
Speaking in tongues
Interpretation of tongues
So today we’re gonna learn two theological terms for this Bible study:
Apologetics - reasoned arguments for a doctrine which you believe. (simply being able to defend your faith)
Defend my space while driving....I take my foot off the gas. This defense isnt an agressive one like in football, its more like in a golf game. There is no thing you can do but explain your point and why you play you do. Then keep going.
&
Pentacostalism- is an evangelical faith, emphasizing the reliability of the Bible and the need for the transformation of an individual's life through faith in Jesus. / that emphasizes the gifts of the Holy Spirit — specifically, glossolalia ;speaking in tongues
about Pentecostalism. there is a theologian, his last name is parham. Also a pastor in texas that william j seymour studied under.
His teachings on Pentecostalism are this.
They stand for two things.
Parham s Focus:
1. Ministry to the poor and under-educated
2. Tongues with Baptism of Spirit
Pentecostals, more appropriately for this church, the AG is not the only, but the main focus of its community, is to point outwards.
Preparing in the church and going even without all the knowledge to touch peoples lives, this is why at pastor rics core i believe he said.
Love God, then just go Love people. Something so simple. and safice.
Lets take a look at the first church when the Holy Spirit fell down.
acts 1 scripture and acts 2 scripture.
Conclusion or last thing id like for us to take a look at is this ...
What do the words wait and suddenly have to do with one another?
look at acts 1…words ; after giving instructions, do not leave, but wait......
acts 2…words: in one place…(they waited)....then suddenly. ....
Waiting in something
To
Receive swiftly the things to come.
So the holy spirit fell and made an amazing movement of the church, empowering them to create the very bride Christ is longing to see again one day.
however great debate in our modern world creates concern for the necessity of these gifts in our lives.
Today were ogoing to look at this very great debate.
William J, Seymour. I spoke about him a few weeks ago, and in my prepeartion of this class ive been obssesed with his life long journey. One that has much significance of our faith today. The reviving of Gods great promise. A promise of which i will speak of at the end of tonight.
Talk about the argument against these gifts for today.
There is a great debate that these gifts Jesus spoke about that would be recieved for the Disciples. That of the infillling of the Holy Spirit was just for the Beginning of the church.
However…this is not so.
17 “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
The promises of which i was speaking of.
Early Rain & Latter Rain....Now id love to go into the depths of culture, relevance to the Israeli people, and today. But for the short time we have. Ill do the latter.
The meaning of rain as we know it today.
Now all mentions of rain in the bible are that of the spiritual, but many are.
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
29 I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.”
15 till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest.
mentioning of the Holy spirit being pour down from heavens onto earth.
The latter rain.
1 Ask the Lord for rain In the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone.
Apostalic period – Holy Spirit
What we are experiencing today is the latter rain’s
Pentecostals believe that the signs, wars, rumors of wars, are the signs of end times, the assemblies of God believe the signs but the signs of Holy Spirit poured out is the signs.
Don’t fixate on the external signs but rather of the Spirit signs.
This is what i want us to see about rain....
In the natural, rain is necessary, so much so man has even learned how to create it. Although it takes alot of time, money, and the right moving parts at the right time. Its a hard thing, but it can be done. Like wise man can find a spiritual satisfaction else where.
the old testament israelites are a testament to that, if we want to look closer to home, our own hearts and lives are a testimony to that as well. Even today, we naturally seek spiritual satisfaction in other things, like prideful earnings, lustful thoughts, spiritual rituals, even religion.
However…truely.
Nothing satisfies our true spirit but the spirit itself. When it comes to deeper, spiritual needs of which the rain is symbolizing in scriptures, there is no help we can recieve but that of God.
One thing i have learned is when i allow God to help, and he begins to stir my life in the right way. Im okay with that. but when i take the next step and say God im not satisfied with simply you saving me, I thankyou, but saving me is enough....now i just want to be with you.
I know its not required but i want to earn that love, i want to give you my all, i want to have a true sense of dedication in my life.
When you begin to walk with God and pray, and begin to hear responses,
When you begin to sit with God and read, and begin to see the man Of jesus in the written word.
When you begin to sing with God in true worship, and begin to experience the presense of Jesus all around you.
It changes you forever. Its something you never want to leave, nor give up. You never want to be away with god.
Again if you are a christian, you are already on this path, Today and continually, we are now seeking the evidence for us. Individually, for us. Amen. d
Over the next few weeks we are going to dive deep into these spiri
1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
This week read 1 Corinthians chapter 13.
