The Gift of the Two W’s

Wisdom & Walking

Introduction
What is Wisdom?
Wisdom: is having insight, understanding and good judgement
Why is wisdom important?
Wisdom replaces earthly wants
also according to Eph 1 1
Ephesians 1:17 ESV
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him,
Wisdom makes us closer to God
Proverbs 2:11–16 (NIV)
11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse,
13 who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways,
14 who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
15 whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.
16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words,
4th bonus point....is wisdom for all…?
- would God have someone NOT have the gift of wisdom…and if so Why?
Colossians 2:2–3 NIV
2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
The answer is no. Wisdom isnt for all. Its only for those who live in christ.
Even as a christian you have to wait until you have been brought to a place of encouragement in the Lord and United with the Body in Love.
Listen the gift of wisdom comes to those who faithfully come to the body to be encouraged through the word, find someone or a group of someones to be united with, becoming more like christ not through your fleshly obedience but in your spiritual obedience.
Wisdom and Discernment go hand and hand. You receive Wisdom when you walk in the steps of Christ. (the steps which we will talk about tonight.
For God is Omnisapient “All Wise” . God is fully self sufficient in who he is. God has all knowledge and He is the God who’s wisdom is put on display through his children.
You already have fruit of which wisdom has been the fruit of your own vine.
When you gave someone guidance to go to the word, When you gave someone a worship song to minister to the heart.
Jeremiah 9:23–24 NIV
23 This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, 24 but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.
If you have exercised Godly Kindness, Justice and righteousness....then you have operated in bits of wisdom.
What I mean by Godly....because there is a difference. For you to exercise any of those things it must not have come from preconceived morals you operate by from wordly standards
IF you operate by God’s Holiness then you express kindness to all, in a biblical sense, you operate in Godly justice without wordly prejudices, And Live in Godly Righteousness instead of Own Righteousness.
Then you have operated in parts of Wisdom.
Is wisdom for All, no.....Its for the Christian, the believer......
And even if the world says you are wise beyond your years, or if the world says you can have wisdom other ways. You must stand and say NO.
I can look at a box of crayons and call it a cabinet or a carton of eggs, doesn't mean it is so.
Wordly wisdom isnt operational for a person because it comes from own strength. Remember wisdom is an action.
A power action of which the power nor the action come from you. But God gives you the power to walk it out in boldness and the instruction to do the action to its completion.
Now we have been talking about wisdom, but todays conversation is about Walking in Wisdom.
What does it look like to Walk in wisdom.
James 3:18 NIV
18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
NO matter the time we will circle back around to this passage, by the way…you can go to Faithlife.com and type in Either Ignite Fellowship or Pastor Emanuel Hillis and find all of my teachings, ALL of the notes, passages and it might even show you my slides im not sure.
I type exactly what I’d like to say so there is alot of rambling on my sermon scripts but its all there. The videos by this saturday will all be on our website uploaded and available to watch until we exit this teaching course.
1st lets recognize this…Wisdom is for us....Wisdom isnt like a clothing item for a christian…those can be found in Eph 6 10-20.
Wisdom is a deep trait given you....It resognates inside of your spirit…as All Spiritual Gifts will. ....
1 Corinthians 2:10 NIV
10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
Romans 11:33 NIV
33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
Walking in Wisdom...
Takes 3 things....
Hearing God.
Really this is a prerequisite to wisdom, but it also is required of wisdom...
A precursor to wisdom is listening and to understanding the voice of God.
If you wanna walk in wisdom you walk and seek the voice of God and these things should come unto you.
Call a volunteer up…
Get a piece of paper and draw a item on the back of them. Allow them to guess what they think it is.
This isnt how God speaks to you, he doesn't send a code you must discipher, nor does he guide you with instructions to guess what the real meaning is. He I’ve said it multiple times, Comes to you in YOUR language, in your understanding, and plain and clearly will give you a message.
But we must be tuned to what he is saying.
Lets try this again.
a. “Get me a water bottle”
b. “Do jumping jacks”
c. “Jump up and down”
d. “Get me a remote control”
I was going to do this a few different ways, I was going to mouth the words, i was gonna write it down on someones back and allow them to determine what it may have been.
See the second example I gave written words for them to read first, for them to think about those actions and allow them to speak to them at first, then i came and spoke.
Not sure if you have ever read the book of proverbs or not, but next time you read proverbs…read it searching for Jesus Christ.
For example in Proverbs 9…wisdom is giving an choice…a choice or invitation to choice for wisdom, and a invitation for folly.
They are separate things. to know we should choose the wise choice over the fun/folly choice.
The Word of God gives us deep instruction to what ways will best benefit you in any given moment. I dont know all the answers to every issue. My will for wisdom is ever growing with yours, I know so much, but the best choice is given through wisdom.
How do YOU hear God speaking?
Through the Word of God 2 Tim 3 16
2 Timothy 3:16 NIV
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
God whispers and even shouts to us through the Word of God.
with raising my kids i seek scripture, in marriage difficulties i sought scripture, in addiction i sought scripture..
Listen this is what scripture does…It speaks to our Spirit, and bypasses our flesh. This is why your body gets tired late at night when you are reading but your spirit feels as if its finally eating a meal.
Through encounters with Christ
Hebrews 1:1–2 NIV
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
In the last days he speaks to us in Holy Jesus moments.
this can be in worship, in our meditation, in church. God speaks through his son Jesus. Paul…living in the last days testament....saw Jesus himself and even said…the things im teaching you now are not my own but Jesus has directed me with this message.
Galatians 1:12 NIV
12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
Through other believers
Through Nature & His creation
Through Music
Through Prayer
Through circumstances
Through His Spirit
John 14:17 NIV
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV
16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
Walking in Wisdom...
Takes 3 things....
Hearing God.
Self- Control
Titus 2:12 NIV
12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
What did we talk about the importance of Wisdom…main point was to keep us away from the world, wisdom REPLACES earthly wants.
Walking in wisdom teaches us to say NO…How?
How does wisdom teach us to say no...
Self control, enables the christian to do as paul instructs which is to know God more.
You know in the Old Testament. God got mad a few times, he God mad at his own people, not because they like us, were self centered at times, or forgot to go to the temple. But because they would curse God for the TYPE of provisions he would give them.
Wisdom…more so in the idea of walking in self control. allows you to stop doing what your body wants you to do and gives you consistency to see God in a deeper richer way.
Resist the urges of this world. How? By trusting God’s power instead of yours.
Galatians 5:16 NIV
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
God doesn't say get your life together and come back to the alter and I will bless you with strength to stay out of the world. Not Take my burden Jesus says
Matthew 11:29 NIV
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
I know we understand the basic principles of what we should have self control from....so i wont read nor teach of those things tonight. We are simply needing to see Self Control is different then you may think.
Self Control isn't about you not sinning anymore…that day will come one day, however…WHILE you are here on earth. Self control is about being dependent on God’s Power.
He gives strength to stop, The same power he used to create this universe he has to empower you to no longer walk in dependency.
Self-Control isn't about another rule or thing you should worry about, its about freedom from the seductive spirit of your past.
People walking is self control doesn't see the misery this life has dealt them, people walking in self control dont see through the eyes of envy nor dispair....Self control enables you to see God’s Glory.
Examples are:
The testimonies people have of giving tithes, are the Glory God is looking for. The people who say they give when they didnt have much yet they KNOW God provided food, shelter, and abundance to them.
The testimonies of sick loved ones laying on the death bed, singing amazing grace and seeing the Glory of God.
The testimony of you and how you lift up God for the saving grace.
This is what God talks about when he says he is a Jealous God. He wants you not to focus on yourself, the things you have that dont seem enough, or the things you dont have....
Maintain Self control over yourself so that you may have room listen....SO that you may have room for your eyes to see God.
self control is a vision thing not a discipline thing.
3Walking in Wisdom...
Takes 3 things....
Hearing God.
Self- Control
Humility
To walk in wisdom you must walk in humility.
Proverbs 11:2 NIV
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
The mind and the heart require humble preparation before they can receive wisdom and process it properly. Otherwise, without the influence of humility, knowledge promotes prideful thinking and hardens the heart. - Boyd Bailey a journalist for the Wisdom Hunters
For those who would learn God’s ways, humility is the first thing, humility is the second, humility is the third.
Augustine of Hippo
Humility is the hallmark of wisdom.
Jeremy Collier
Humility may be the last point today, but it should and could have easily been the first, when I was preparing this, I put them in recieved order.
Humility isn't about you being less, nor making yourself known.
Humility is much like that of which we have already talked about....making yourself available.
For the ways of the Lord require you to empty yourself on a regular basis, emptying yourself of earthly desires, or even biblical knowledge you once thought you had. Making room so Spiritual Wisdom has room to work in your life.
We must through humility resist the temptation to fill our mind with much information

Humility creates space for God’s Sovereignty in your life.

humility is not about emptying yourself of self worthlessness....most people walk around with self worthlessness everyday anyways because of failures, mistakes, and poor decision making.
Humility is about knowing you are God’s. A chosen person, created with a purpose, set apart, and meant to make a impact on this world.
Humility is seeking God’s Glory to be a living Sacrifice for everyone around you.
Humility looks like a Jesus Freak, acting like a servant, with Power unstoppable.
Story of Stephen is a great example of humility.
Close:
Godly Wisdom is unending....and Humility is our way to open the floodgates of heaven in a pouring out of humility. When we have a humble heart, God trust us to use Wisdom for His purposes and His alone.
Wisdom can be used for earthly gain, for self promotion and self elevation. “see what i did there”, Instead of “That’s the Power of God, to God be the Glory”
If you want Wisdom....im going to give you four things to pursue.
Fear God. Proverbs 9 10
Proverbs 9:10 NIV
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
2. Desire This Wisdom
3.Pray for this Wisdom
4. Study the Word with Passion
Guide to Wisdom
Fear God - Proverbs 9:10
Desire Wisdom
Pray for Wisdom
Study the Word with Passion
James 3:13–18 NIV
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
There are two types of wisdom...
Wisdom in the flesh....seeks envy, selfish ambitions.....
This is a wisdom that if you hold you would look out for you and you alone, you have an ambition to achieve the best for yourself and nothing will get in your ways
Wisdom in the spirit which is Pure, peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and bears good fruit, impartial and sincere....
This wisdom leaves you Caring and empathetic to those around you.
I say this…continue to walk in wisdom. Dont be decieved from the CULTure we live in which points to you being the focal point of your life. Stop gratifying or even entertaining this worlds, CULTure…allow yourself to become the best person you are…Which is only identified through God’s leadership.
Wisdom keeps you from distraction, punishment, and conviction. Which Satan uses on each of us daily.
Walk in Wisdom… Biblically Secured Wisdom. Which no man nor spirit may take from you.
Let us pray.
