The Spirit of the Truth will guide you into all the truth.
“But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to Himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said. He will honour Me; he will take from Me and deliver it to you. Everything the Father has is also Mine. That is why I’ve said, ‘He takes from Me and delivers to you.’” (John 16:13-15).
“The Spirit of the Truth” is the Spirit of Christ. He guides us into the truth by directing our attention to Jesus who is “the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). Jesus speaks of “the Father” and the Friend”. The God whom we see in Jesus isn’t a ‘god’ who keeps his distance, a ‘god’ who keeps his silence. He’s our Father. He loves us with a faithful love, a forever love. What fullness there is in the love of our Heavenly Father. We can’t put it into words. We can’t even imagine how great His love is. Can we speak of His love? Can we even begin to imagine how much He loves us? Yes! He has come near to us. He has spoken to us. He has given us Jesus, the living Word. He has given us Scripture, His written Word. As we read the Scriptures, with our eyes firmly fixed on the Saviour, the Spirit comes to us. He comes to us as our “Friend”. He show us how much we are loved – loved by God our Father, loved by Jesus our Saviour, loved by the Holy Spirit our Friend.
