He Who Has Ears

Jesus here is speaking to His Apostles and others
V 8
The Word of God is the seed that is scattered about
Romans 10:17 LSB
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
there are 4 different types of listeners
V 12-15
V 16-18 we have another parable given but this time it is given to those who have ears to hear
these are people who have heard the word about Christ
heard about their rebellion against God
understood about their sin nature
realized their inability to come to God without the shedding of the precious blood of Christ on the cross
so they have responded to the call of Christ
Come unto me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest
call upon the name of the Lord and be saved
so now the light is lit
this is what we are looking at this morning
read V 16-18

The Light

John 1:4–5 LSB
In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.
Jesus is the Light
John 3:19–21 LSB
“And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed. “But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been done by God.”
Psalm 119:105 LSB
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
the words of our precious Lord are our well lit path
a path that keeps us on the straight and narrow
our christian life is a knife edge path that is easily strayed from
Jesus and His word is Light
we have come to the light lets continue into what has been illuminated to us
V 16 the light has been turned on
The light has been lit
what are you going to do with the light
the spider webs in the church. most you cant see unless the light shines on them
what do we do? ignore them until the sun does not shine on them and they are not visible anymore?
do we pull the curtains ?
or do we sweep them up?
what do you do with the sin that is exposed by the light of the word?
V 17 Jesus exposes our sin
there is nothing hidden from Him
are you going to pretend there is nothing to see here?
your putting your head in the sand will not hide from God
your secrets are on God’s big screen
your thoughts are played out in living color
you can hide it from everybody but God
Jesus you groom
Jesus who is preparing a place for you
Jesus who gave His life for you
can see your most deepest darkest secrets
and He is holding up the mirror of the Holy Scriptures
and showing to you your need of repentance
the sin you are thinking about right now

Listen to Jesus

V 18
John 10:27 LSB
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
Jesus speaks to us through His word
Jesus is revealed though creation
Romans 1:20 LSB
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, both His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
we hear through the preacher as Jesus speaks through me
we hear through the Holy Spirit convicting us
so beware how you listen V 18
am I saying something today that is convicting you ?
Has the Holy Spirit touched your heart with the pain of your sin?
Has Jesus spoken directly through his written word?
Obedience is what is spoken of in this parable
so don’t be self deceived into thinking your excuses are legit
the light of Gods word
what are you going to do with it?
the light that can bring us closer to our Lord
if we allow it to shine on our lives and we are changed because of it
or are we putting the light under the blankets
V 18
Psalm 1:1 LSB
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
Blessed is the man
when we take care of our sin. Confess and renounce
How blessed we are we are
V 18 use it or lose it
