Servant Jesus

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God., 2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

Mark’s opening seems unimaginative, but on a closer look, it is much more.
We are beginning- name somewhere else listed.

The first Adam, in his disobedience, brought sin and death into the world; Christ, the “second” or “last” Adam, undoes the work of the first, wherein his obedience to the point of death brings life and righteousness.

Jesus is the new adam
Jesus is a common name, Jesus Barabbas
Christ
Christ—anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered “Messiah”
Gospel-A gospel is an announcement of good news. In particular, the gospel is the announcement that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection have brought about salvation for Israel and the world.
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, 3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’ ”
Prophets predicted but never saw the Messiah. Generations waited, it was 400 years between Malachi and Matthew

John the Baptist was in the wilderness symbolically telling people they were in a spiritual wilderness

He was on the boundary between the east and west
40 years in the desert
Messiah came from the wilderness
Lot chose the plain of Jordan
Jacob crossed Jordan to meet Esau
Israel crossed to the promised land
