Intro

How then should we live
1 Peter 1:14–16 ESV
14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
We talked about our calling to be different
We talked about how different the one who has called us is
So how do we do that
We will take the next few weeks to go through that
What does holiness in our lives looks like
We know that we should be different
But how what does that look like??????
Thats the big question
After last week looking at this God who is completely Holy you may think man I dont know how to do this there is no way
But what have I said there is a way through Christ and his Holy Spirit for us to live differently
And whats better is we have a manual for how to live holy
Its not just this verse this command to be holy
There is a how to in this word
And there is a helper
Look at what Jesus says in John 14:23-26
John 14:23–26 ESV
23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me. 25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
If anyone loves me he will keep my word
This is Holiness that we keep the word of God
That we would live a life keeping the word of God
Obeying his commandments
He will send a helper
We will get a helper that will remind us of his word
Later in John 16:7-8
John 16:7–8 ESV
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
to convict us when we are not following his commandments
when we are not living differntly
When we lack holiness in our lives

Holiness in our actions

how do we live holy with the help of the holy spirit
What does the manual say???
Read 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
1 Corinthians 10:31–11:1 ESV
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. 1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
lets focus on 10:31 for now
Whether you eat or drink
This is the context of what paul is saying here
in the verses prior he is talking about how we determine what food to eat or drink
Some food was offered to idols procured in a “unholy” manner
And the discussion was whether I should eat at my friends house if they didnt do the meat right
And paul addresses this but in verse 31 he gets to the heart of the matter
Paul gets down to the reality of our heart
of how our heart effects our actions
You people are arguing about what to eat, but dont you see
You are just trying to honor yourself
make yourself look good
so paul pushes back on that idea
Whatever you do
Do it for the glory of God
Do it so much is made of God
This is the practical part of living Holy
Do you do everything for the Glory of God or for something else
you and I know that this is different from the world
The world says its about me
Football sacks and interceptions
But what do christians do
They say its not about me
Its about the God who has given me this gift
they try to operate as a deflector
They glory given to them they immediately deflect that glory to God
We see Paul reiterate this message again in Colossians 3:23-24
Colossians 3:23–24 ESV
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Whatever you do
Again that same though process
Whatever you do
if you look up a little someone attempting to make our bibles a little easier to navigate put this title up at the beginning of this paragraph
Rules for Christian households
How should christinas live agin
this book is full of these instructions
The instructions for how christians should live in a holy manner
A manner that is different
So whatever you do
However you live
Whatever job you take
whatever you eat
Whatever you drink
Wherever you life takes you
do it for the Lord and not for men
Notice in both these verses Paul isnt very concerned with the particulars of our lives
He is concerned with one common thing
OUR MOTIVE/OUR HEART
who’s glory do we work for
Whats the position of our heart
I have had the oppurtunity to meet many famous people
They have done some awesome things in their lives
One was the secretary of state and presidential candidate
One was a massively famous hip hop singer
pop stars
pastors
people
But some of the most holy people I have met are here at this church
They live a life that points me toward God
The live a life if giving glory to god

So back to 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
1 Corinthians 10:31–11:1 ESV
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. 1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
What is the result of a Holy life
A life lived for the glory of God???
