40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
Don’t fall-Pray v40
Not some life-destroying sin, Their temptation was distraction from participating in kingdom work with Jesus
Don’t Demand-Pray v42
Jesus prayed what he wanted, but he embraced what God wanted.
Sometimes those match, sometimes they dont.
Don’t Surrender-Pray v44
The pain steps up, and Jesus’ prayer steps up. This is not a do better speech.
The call to follow Jesus is the call to go through some of the toughest mess.
Lean in with prayer
Dont miss what Jesus is doing-Pray v46
The wrath of God is about to be poured out
He is about to die, Not for his allies, but FOR HIS ENEMIES
Sometimes we miss the serious for the silly.
But God is at work, saving, bringing from spiritual death to life
Will you just stay asleep or will you pray?
The story of Jesus still changes hearts and lives
Pray for your leaders and your teachers, for your coaches, for your friends, for your enemies, for your classmates, for your bullies, for your parents and your siblings. Pray for your nation and if you have a church, your pastors,
Pray. dont fall asleep when the hardest work is happening. Pray.
