John 6:22-71

Jesus Is The Bread Of Life.

John 6:35 NCV Then Jesus said, “I am the bread that gives life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you before, you have seen me and still don’t believe. 37 The Father gives me the people who are mine. Every one of them will come to me, and I will always accept them. 38 I came down from heaven to do what God wants me to do, not what I want to do. 39 Here is what the One who sent me wants me to do: I must not lose even one whom God gave me, but I must raise them all on the last day. 40 Those who see the Son and believe in him have eternal life, and I will raise them on the last day. This is what my Father wants.” In grace, our Lord fed the hungry people; but in truth, He gave them the Word of God.

Let’s go back and grab some golden nuggets that would set some precedence to the reason why Jesus is good. There are many places in the bible to see why Jesus is good. And John 5:39 says that Jesus said “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me”. That’s too long of a lesson to cover now I’m just making a point. All through out this bible Jesus is Good.

And so quickly Jesus is good first of all because the bible says that in

John Chapter 6 after the long sermon or apologetic discourse to the Jews in John 5 now John 6 says that 6 After this, Jesus went across Lake Galilee (or, Lake Tiberias).

2 Many people followed him because they saw the miracles he did to heal the sick. They saw the Messiah at work. They saw Jehovah Rapha at work They saw jesus do miraculous deeds without sending Him some seed money or donations or sponsor His broadcast.

3 Jesus went up on a hill and sat down there with his followers.

4 It was almost the time for the Jewish Passover Feast. This is significant because we see Jesus honoring the Passover feast. and what I mean by that is Jesus was in biblical antiquity when the Father The Son and the Holy Ghost release the death angel on Egypt. The Egyptians died but the Israelites lived because first born Lamb’s blood was painted on the doorpost and the death angel passover the Israelites and spared their lives. but killed all first born Egyptian men women boys girls and animals.

And so now 1600 years later in verse 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough bread for all these people to eat?” In other words Jesus knew that the people should be able to eat and participate in the feast of the passover to remember what great things God has done for Israel. And so

in verse 6 (Jesus asked Philip this question to test him, because Jesus already knew what he planned to do.)

7 Philip answered, “Someone would have to work almost a year to buy enough bread for each person to have only a little piece.”

1. Right here this is rhetorical reasoning because Jesus already know what they had need of

Then in verse 8 the bible says “Another one of his followers, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said, 9 “Here is a boy with five loaves of barley bread and two little fish, but that is not enough for so many people.”

2.The second point is if you see that you don’t have enough to cover your bills then that money must be a seed offering so God can do a mighty miracle on your behalf. If you don’t believe me

look at verse 10 “Jesus said, “Tell the people to sit down.” There was plenty of grass there, and about five thousand men sat down there.

11 Then Jesus took the loaves of bread, thanked God for them, and gave them to the people who were sitting there. He did the same with the fish, giving as much as the people wanted. In grace, our Lord fed the hungry people; but in truth, He gave them the Word of God.If you sow into God Kingdom my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory....

Point 3. I know Jesus will provide for us because He’s Jehovah Jireh the Lord our Provider. YEA 3x

12 When they had all had enough to eat, Jesus said to his followers, “Gather the leftover pieces of fish and bread so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they gathered up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with the pieces left from the five barley loaves.

Point 4 Acknowledgement of a Divine Presence

14 When the people saw this miracle that Jesus did, they said, “He must truly be the Prophet who is coming into the world.” When we come to that realization we can truly know Jesus for ourselves and give our own reason Why Jesus is Good.

Lastly Point 5. Just Because You Finally Found Out About The Deity Of Jesus Doesn’t mean that you’re allowed to Exploit His Deity. Jesus is God and God all by Himself and He doesn’t need our help to be God!!

15 Jesus knew that the people planned to come and take him by force and make him their king, so he left and went into the hills alone. Yes Indeed. He knew what they were planning. I don’t always know people’s motives but I’ll do my best to follow God’s Will Word and God’s Way.

Part II. Jesus Walks on the Water

16 That evening Jesus’ followers went down to Lake Galilee. 17 It was dark now, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The followers got into a boat and started across the lake to Capernaum. 18 By now a strong wind was blowing, and the waves on the lake were getting bigger. 19 When they had rowed the boat about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water, coming toward the boat. The followers were afraid, 20 but Jesus said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat. At once the boat came to land at the place where they wanted to go.

I see several things here in the text.

1. in verses 16&17 the disciples had been waiting for Jesus to come down out of the foothills of the mountain but he was still there praying and regrouping and recharging ans rejuvenating and they were impatient and capricious. And sometimes we just have to wait on God. The bible says in Psalms 27:14 Wait upon the Lord be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart wait, I say upon the Lord.

2. Because of their impulsivity the went out on the Lake and verse 18 says then a storm arose. They are in trouble, but it’s trouble that they caused.

3. Then came Jesus in verse 19 walking on the water and I’m so glad that Jesus decided to look pass my faults and see about my needs Aren’t you glad that Jesus looked pass your faults and came and seen about you when you were in the midst of your trouble. The disciples are in the midst of their trouble the storm is on the raging sea and here comes Jesus. Not in a boat but walking on water.YES INDEED. You know He a holy man, you know he’s a righteous man, you know he just did miracle after miracle but you ain’t never seen nobody walk on no water. AH AH 3x the bible says they were sore afraid. That would have scared me out of my mind. The boat is on the water. We get in the boat to be on the water not under the water. we can swim we are fishermen but we don’t walk on water!!!

4. In verses 20 & 21 Jesus Calms their fears. It’s is I be not afraid. My take would be Jesus You’re saying that but I ain’t never seen nobody walk on no water. But the disciple responded well, they were glad to see Jesus and when they received Jesus into the boat, the boat was immediately at the land… That was a miracle by it self that people don’t hardly talk about.

Part III.The People Seek Jesus But A Lot Of Them Don’t Like What He’s Teaching Them. look at John 6:22-24 The next day the people who had stayed on the other side of the lake knew that Jesus had not gone in the boat with his followers but that they had left without him. And they knew that only one boat had been there. 23 But then some boats came from Tiberias and landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 When the people saw that Jesus and his followers were not there now, they got into boats and went to Capernaum to find Jesus.

1.in verse 22 we start to see materialism verses spiritualism,tangible verses intangible, flesh verses spirit, carnal minded verses holy disposition. Because let’s critically think about the story. The next day began with a mystery: how did Jesus get to Capernaum? Wait nah,,, The crowd saw the disciples embarking and voyaging to go across the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum, and then the men were lost in the storm. The storm didn’t just happen on the sea, the people on land knew about the storm too. It was a fishing community. They knew it was rough seas. Then furthermore; the crowd also saw Jesus leave the place and go by Himself to a mountain. But the next morning, here were Jesus and His disciples together in Capernaum! Yes Indeed And the crowd knew that Jesus had not walked around the lake that fast all by Himself. Also there was no evidence that Jesus had taken another boat. The crowd saw the other boats that had arrived, because they were no doubt driven in by the storm as well; And the people were watching and Jesus had not been in any of the other boats. I said all of this to say that there are a lot of things about God that I just don’t understand, don’t comprehend, can’t compute and don’t know how to refute. But I do know ONE THING God is God and He’s sovereign. He can do what he wants when he wants how he wants and to whomsoever he wants.

2. In KJV John 6:25  And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? 26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Jesus is saying in essence it’s good that you’re seeking me out. But your motives are not pure because this is where we see the materialism verses spiritualism,tangible verses intangible, flesh verses spirit, carnal minded verses holy disposition. Look at what Jesus tells them in verse 27.

27 Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

3. the text teaches talks and tells us about the right attitude, the right aptitude and how the right attitude with the right aptitude will give us the right altitude. Because the Ultimate goal is Eternal Life. Verse 27 says don’t labor for meat like a foolish people. The meat is going to perish. Ain’t no sense in carrying on over no food. Yes Indeed. In other words don’t major in minor things because everlasting Life is far more important and food. Well if Jesus had not had an experience with the food temptation we could argue that he doesn’t know. But when you go to Matthew 4 the bible says Jesus had fasted f 40 days and 40 nights and after that he was hungry and the devil tried to tempt Jesus with food. and Jesus said Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. And so Jesus knows a lot about not letting materialism outweigh Spiritualism.and we too have the example of how allowing the flesh to dictate to our spirit man. John 6:28 The people asked Jesus, “What are the things God wants us to do?”29 Jesus answered, “The work God wants you to do is this: Believe the One he sent

What the people needed was not food but life, and life is a gift. Food only sustains life, but Jesus gives eternal life.

KJV in verse 28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

And sometimes people literally hear what they want to hear because The people picked up the word labor and misinterpreted it to mean they had to work for salvation. They completely missed the word give. Steeped in legalistic religion, they thought they had to “do something” to merit eternal life. Jesus made it clear that only one “work” was necessary—to believe on the Saviour. When a person believes on Christ, he is not performing a good work that earns him salvation. You get credit for believing, but it’s what God does for us in response to our faith, and that is what ‘s important (see Eph. 2:8–10).But the crowd wanted a sign from heaven.

Look at verse 30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that

1.The crowd began by seeking Christ, but then started to seek a sign from Him.Quick Question why were they looking for a sign .“For the Jews require a sign” (1 Cor. 1:22).

2. The began to spit out scripture because they said “The rabbis taught that, when Messiah came, He would duplicate the miracle of the manna (see Ex. 16).So the Jews sough after a sign because of traditions. They felt like “If Jesus was truly sent by God (see John 6:29, 38, 57), then let Him prove it.He got to show me, I got to see it for myself. Y’all remember Doubting Thomas, He had to see a sign too. They said Jesus had to cause manna to fall from heaven. They wanted to “see and believe.” is different

Faith is the substance of things not seen and the evidence if things not seen. You got to believe before you see it. And 3x faith that is based on signs alone, and not on the truth of the Word, can lead a person astray; for even the devil and Satan and lucifer is able to perform “lying wonders” (2 Thes. 2:8–10). note also John 2:18–25; 4:48.

Jesus’s quotation in John 6:31 is from Psalm 78:24, a psalm that records the unbelief and rebellion of the nation of Israel.They are quoting scripture but if you read the scripture carefully although it’s giving a history lesson it’s also speaking vividly to the rebellion of Israel.
