Intro

what is the point of following all the rules and laws?
why does God end up giving such a long list later in Leviticus?

Marah

the first episode out of Egyptian captivity
they have escaped but after the songs are done being sung the people wish to be back as slaves
groups of people are fickle and its much easier to blame the leader than it is to take responsibility as the individual
they come to water that is bitter and they refuse to drink it, possibly salty
God provides what makes the water good to drink and a promise to go with it that will guide the rest of the Exodus
if you will simply listen to God, you will be more than fine, you will have all the quality of life one could ever want

Manna

the people cry and complain to Moses and there is an interesting point that Moses and Aaron make
you are upset in the wrong direction and about the wrong things
if you would simply listen and follow you would be fine
God provides all they need to be satisfied and enough for them to rest on the sabbath
even in these simple things, the people refuse to trust God completely
they ought to see God and instead they see bread

Application

we are still people who find it easier to shift blame for the things we don’t like in our lives
personal responsibility is one of the more difficult things in life to grasp
God tells us what we ought to do with our lives, knowing we will miss the mark and blame anything but our selves for our own choices
because of this, he always provides what we don’t deserve because he is full of grace and mercy
