Do you find it hard or easy to apologize?
Why?
What is the difference between confessing, repenting and apologizing?
What do these things have to do with humility?
Is repenting a one time thing or an ongoing process?
Initial repentance
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The work of Jesus brings us TO repentance AND keeps us in repentance

4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Remember the gospel, Live in repentance
8 Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
20 but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.
A fruit of repentance is being quick to admit when you are wrong
is it easier to confess and repent to God or confess and apologize to a person?
What does a humble apology look like?
Be vulnerable: giving up control and opening yourself up for consequence
Confess: I admit what I did and know that I was wrong
Own it: don’t rush to explain your excuses. offer to sort through it if it is helpful the injured party (to demand the right to explain is to demand the right to justify your wrongdoing OR to show the person how you are not really that bad)
Make restitution:
repent and be saved
repent and be reconciled to God
are you bearing fruit of repentance?
Psalm 51 (ESV)
To the choirmaster.
