Genesis 1-3 Questions
Genesis 1-3 Questions
SO let’s split into groups tonight and discuss a few questions:
Who was the first one who sinned?
Who created God? What does the answer to that question mean? Psalm 90:2.
Read John 1:3. Did God create Sin?
Why did God allow sin in the first place?
What did God ask humans to do in Genesis 2?
1. Who was the first one who sinned?
Genesis 3:6 “6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”
Genesis 3:7 “7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.”
It was a collective effort. Both bore responsibility.
Both shared the guilt and shame
All experience the consequences
All have an opportunity to collide with Grace
Adam was not still living without the knowledge of Evil while Eve was out here seeing all the evil things.
It seems the eyes of both of them were opened at the same time.
Sin ruled in them at the same time.
Neither of them deserves the blame more than they other, but at the same time, they both shared the consequences and spread them.
2. Who created God?
John 1:1–5 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
3. Did God create sin?
John 1:3 “3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”
Did God create light? No. Genesis 1:3–4 “3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.”
Deuteronomy 32:4 “4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.”
James 1:13 “13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;”
So no, God did not create sin.
4. Why did God allow Sin in the first place?
God desires us to know Truth
The first sin confronts truth. Genesis 2:17 “17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.””
Genesis 3:4 “4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.”
This is a question of “Who is telling the truth?”
God created us to be known by Him and to Know Him.
Genesis 3:5 “5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.””
This is the twisting of Satan, the reality is, they were already like God.
God created us to be dependent on Him. To see him as both creator and Lord.
God desired worship.
He created us in His image. He displayed his penultimate creativity by creating free will beings who would choose to worship Him and give Him glory.
Yet, In order for that to be true, he had to give us the choice to choose Him or not.
Knowing that not all would choose Him, He chose to give us grace and a choice of redemption as well.
Deuteronomy 33:26 “26 “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.”
God desired to show His love to His image bearers.
In order to Know God’s love we have to choose it.
In order for us to choose it, there has to be the risk we won’t.
Even if we won’t, God accepted that risk and provided the sacrifice to buy us back if we didn’t choose Him.
It was all part of His glorious plan to show us His grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
5. What did God ask Adam and Eve to do in Genesis 2?
Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth (Genesis 1:28 “28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.””
Be free (Genesis 2:16 “16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;”)
Work the garden (Genesis 2:15 “15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
