1 Samuel 16:12–13 “So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”
God anoints those He calls for the purposes that He has for them.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
If you are a follower of Jesus, you are anointed. You have a purpose. You have a ministry. God wants you to impact lives.
Just because you are anointed though, doesn’t mean you walk in the anointing.
1 Samuel 16:14 “But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.”
When we walk outside of the anointing we are vulnerable to the enemy.
You cannot walk in the anointing while at the same time resisting Holy Spirit.
Saul’s Armor- You cannot walk in someone else’s anointing.
David chose to offer the little he had that was anointed rather than what seemed like a lot that was not.
A little that is anointed will always be more effective than a lot that is not.
The anointing is accessed through relationship (intimacy).
Many people don’t access the anointing because they either don’t have the relationship, don’t recognize their need for the anointing or try to do it on their own strength.
If you are afraid of the calling, gifts and purpose that God has on your life it is because you are relying on yourself rather than God!
Acts 2:1–4 “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Why do you think Holy Spirit came upon them?
One accord? With what? Relationship with Jesus
Exodus 30:33 “Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on an outsider, shall be cut off from his people.’ ””
Outsider- The more you drift away from God the less the anointing will flow through you.
The more the world has a hold on you the less the anointing will flow through you.
The more pride and self-reliance you walk in the less the anointing will flow through you.
We must remain close to God!
We must return to our first love!
Purity and holiness produce power!
We need a mentality that if something is going to hinder my anointing… I DON’T WANT IT!
2 Chronicles 12:9–10 “So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he took everything. He also carried away the gold shields which Solomon had made. Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the doorway of the king’s house.”
The enemy wants to steal, kill and destroy the anointing that is on your life.
Rehoboam substituted brass for gold. He wanted people to think they were gold, but they weren’t.
There is no substitute for the anointing!
Many of you aren’t walking in the anointing because you are trying to polish the brass in your life and convince people it’s gold!
This church of all places should not do that…and yet we have!
Repent!
Repent for pretending!
Repent for substituting!
Repent for settling!
Repent for relying on yourself instead of the anointing of the Holy Spirit!
IF TIME:
Luke 4:18 ““The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;”
The anointing does what we cannot do.
The anointing:
Opens doors
Draws people
Breaks through barriers
Opens the storehouse of heaven
Empowers the weak
Shifts the atmosphere
Pushes back the darkness
You need the anointing! Do you recognize how much you need the anointing?
Ask for it! Trust Him with it! Step into faith with it!
If you are walking in the anointing no devil can stand in your way!
Story- 2 girls kidnapped. 1 saw knife, tape and ropes. She started praying in the Holy Spirit out loud. The man became very uncomfortable and asked the other girl what she was doing. “She’s praying under the anointing of the Holy Ghost!” Then the second girl started praying as well! The man became so agitated that he pulled the car over and yelled at them to get out because he couldn’t take it anymore!
Don’t let the enemy have your anointing!
