In 1 Samuel 18 verses 7 & 8 we read these words.
1 Samuel 18:7–8 NKJV
7 So the women sang as they danced, and said: “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.” 8 Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”
Saul is jealous of David.
Jealous because women were singing praise to David.
This jealousy festered in Saul leading him to attempt to kill David repeatedly.
It is the jealousy and insecurity of Saul that eventually leads to him losing the kingdom and dying.
Jealousy is one of those things that we tend to classify as not too bad, right?
We know that it is a sin, but we feel like it must be pretty far down the list.
It can’t be that big of a deal.
The Jealousy of Saul led him to attempt murder.
When we look back at stories from ancient times, jealousy is a common theme.
Jealousy leads us to dangerous behaviors.
So, what do we do about it?
At its core, jealousy is about thinking we deserve what someone else has and being willing to act on that belief.
The cure for jealousy is recognizing who has provided our needs.
Philippians 4:19 says
Philippians 4:19 NKJV
19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
God has already provided everything we need.
We have no reason to be jealous of others.
When you feel jealousy rising up within you, remember, God has provided every need.
