In 2 Timothy 4, Paul is wrapping up his letter to Timothy and he mentions some pretty difficult things he has faced.
Paul is in prison, and at his trial, no one had his back!
They all ran away.
A man named Alexander the coppersmith did deliberate harm to Paul.
Demas forsook him.
He had to send some of his companions to different places.
The bottom line?
Paul was lonely.
The interesting thing that Paul does here is remind himself of others who were still faithful.
He mentions Mark in verse 11 as someone who is profitable for ministry.
He sends greetings to Timothy from 4 individuals as well as “the brethren” probably referencing a church body.
In the midst of his loneliness, Paul remembered people who were faithful.
This reminds me of Elijah in 1 Kings 19.
Serving God had Elijah in the wilderness after running for his life and he wants to die because he is convinced he is alone.
God meets him there, gives him a job to do, and reveals that there are over 7,000 people who are still faithful.
When we are lonely, we need to remember that there are other faithful brothers and sisters in Christ all around us.
What does that mean?
We are not alone!
Not only has God promised to never leave us and never forsake us, we have brothers and sisters in Christ that we can reach out to.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
You have a family.
You have brothers and sisters in Christ.
You are not alone.
Remember the body of Christ and reach out to someone today.
You are not alone.
