There is a song I learned as a child that goes like this.
The things I used to do, don’t do them anymore
The things I used to do, don’t do them anymore
The things I used to do, don’t do them anymore
There’s been a great change since I’ve been born again.
The Christian life is one of transformation.
As we grow in Christ we change.
We take on the character of Christ.
We stop doing the negative things and start doing the positive.
Paul, writing to the Colossian church, puts it this way.
Colossians 3:9 NKJV
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,
The old man, who you were, is dead. Put him off.
Lying is a characteristic of who we were before Christ.
Lying has no place in the life of the believer.
Paul says, put off the old man!
Stop lying.
Why?
That’s not who you are anymore!
Please hear this.
We are not who we once were!
Those who have placed their faith in Jesus are new creations in Christ!
The things we used to do, we don’t do them any more.
Why not?
Because there has been a great change in our lives.
There is no longer a need to lie because we have been made new.
Now, we speak the truth in love.
You and I have been bought with the precious blood of Jesus.
We are not what we once were!
We have been made new through the power of Jesus Christ.
No more lying.
Why?
Because.
That’s not who we are.
